When difficulty is done right
Hotline Miami is insanely difficult. But this is how difficulty should be handled : it's not frustrating, it's not difficult because you lack control and each time you fail, you want to try again cause you usually know why you failed and just try to do better. The gameplay is responsive and rather pleasant (even with a pad). The OST is great, and the general atmosphere of the game really gives this 80s feel. I stoped around 80% of the game but the first parts of the story are great, even if the story isn't that deep ; they lead us on a path with clues scattered around the levels (most of them being obvious), and this is very well done. I thought HM was "only" a very good game regarding to mechanics, but I discovered a brilliant art creation. Really worth a try !

Best in the world at what it does
There is a good core mechanic here, instant one-shot kills with a limited field of view. Hotline is not a stealth game, but you do have to avoid enemies, sometimes. You cannot play in a way to never be spotted, and several latter missions basically force you to rush or kite enemies. You are also put in situations where you cannot scout ahead, and so trial and error is the only means of learning the map. Trial and brutal, brutal error. The game early encourages scouting, ambushing, and quick kills, but this all goes away later game when rushing, kiting, and twitch combat take over. It reminds me a lot of playing old action games, but lacking the consistent patterns of Contra, platformers, etc. It's not a shooter, ammo is limited and weapon drops are the only means to get more. There are masks for customization, but I used the default mask for almost the whole game. I love the soundtrack, and the visual style serves the throwback style and setting. Controls are tight and unforgiving. I recommend a gamepad. The story is uneven. Parts are done well, like the changes to the apartment to convey story developments. The attempt to marry fever dreams and ultra-violent reality and meta-narrative fell a little flat, but taken for what it is serves well enough. Overall I enjoyed Hotline: Miami. It has a really good core idea, and knows what it wants to do, but doesn't empower the player enough to follow through with that the whole game. It's great at what it does, and that is a worthwhile experience.

Bloodbath
This is a game that probably everyone heard about. One of the biggest indie games, that even got a sequel. And it's great! The gameplay mechanics are good, i didn't see any BIG problems, the dog AI is pretty bad, and i would like to see more guns that i unlock spawn, because mainly there are three: classic shotgun, double barreled shotgun and an assault rifle, and some melee weapons, but except that it's superb. Every hit kills the enemy, but also you - so you need to play safely, because you have the same chances of dying, and the enemy has superiority in numbers. And they are really good sharpshooters they almost never miss. The levels are very well designed, you always need to find the perfect scheme to kill your enemies. The boss fights are well designed too, you need to learn their moves and use them as an advantage. The game is hard, but really satisfying. Murdering russian gangsters was so fun, i couldn't stop and wanted more. The graphics and music are amazing. The music fits in with the style perfectly, pixel-art violence is great looking, there's a lot of finishing animations, death animations, and bodies of enemies react differently to many types of weapons - they can run around burning, get cut in half, etc. - i don't want to spoil to much content. The main storyline is short - i finished it in 2h 50min, if you are more skilled at the game you can probably do it even faster. Even after finishing the game you still have masks and weapons to unlock, so it adds replay value, you can just come back later when you fell like it. I really recommend this game, it's fun, but i think it's better if you wait for a discount (like me, got it for 2$), because the original one is really high. You can also play this game on PS3, PS4, PSVita and Android devices.
