Description
Homeworld: Emergence was originally released as "Homeworld: Cataclysm". "Cataclysm" is now a registered trademark of Blizzard Entertainment, Inc., and the game has been renamed to avoid confusion. Other than the subtitle change, the game is identical to the game released in 2000.

15 years ago, we were awakened from the cryo-trays. We had survived the journey to Hiigara, our lost homeworld. Then they told us that the planet we left behind had been destroyed. Our families... friends... everyone not on the mothership - killed. Destroyed by an enemy we never knew.

We realized there was nothing for us on Hiigara. No property, no rights, no future for the "Sleepers". So we returned to the stars, fully awake this time, to work and rebuild our lives.

It is ironic, then, that we are the ones to discover an alien capable of exterminating all life in the galaxy. And only we are in a position to destroy it.

Fifteen years after returning to their homeworld, a Hiigaran sect unwittingly releases an alien horror. Now it's up to you to commandeer the Kuun-Lan, a Hiigaran mining vessel, and transform it into a combat-ready mothership. Build and control a fleet of ships, research technologies, and harvest resources while you search for a way to eradicate the alien threat before it is too late.

Seems good, even in 2023 with Win10!

Tl;dr: try "/noFastFE" in the parameter startup options if you have a seriously lagging mouse cursor ONLY in the games "build menu". Fixed it for me! Otherwise it wouuld have been unplayable! I am so glad I did the tinkering!! I was SO close to drop this game and just continue with Homeword 2 without this story DLC, but this option fixed (for whatever reason my lagging mousecursor!) and I was able to enoy this game. The following review will be biased, but the important thing is that ITS A GREAT GAME, but old! So I REALLY hope my advise might help you to play this game! Now the review: Ok, I played Homeworld remastered and completed the first game. This game is / was a DLC for Homeworld 1 that was not remastered. I read that the source code was lost so it was not included into the remastered versions! However, since I wanted to play everything in order I started this game and after some tinkering it was running fine! It is like a new game. Homeworld 1 had 16 missions, this has 17 so this DLC is like a new game with a new story. Sure since it is not remastered, it still looks a bit outdated, but its still a fun game. Dont let the graphics fool you. The gog version worked fine on my PC with WIndows 10 in December 2023. HOWEVER, now comes the thing: While it was starting fine without any tinkering it worked fine in the normal game, but opening the ingame menu to build ships made my mouse cursor lagging to an extemd I even considered skipping this game and "just" continue with Homeworld 2 remastered and skipped this game. Long story short I tried some custom game startup parameters within the gog launcher and really fixed the problem! To be honest I was SOOO f***ing close to just skip this game, but investing some time to fix this old game was worth it! I feel too old for some serious tinkering, but this time it was worth it for me! This is a great game, but has it flaws due to its age! Hope my tipps will help you to enjoy the game on modern computers.

Briliant game

I played it when it was relased, as well as homeworld 1 and 2. And through my long gaming history I find homeworld one of if not best RTS ever. Much disapointed Cataclysm never made it to Remastred version cause dev's lost source of it or so I've heard... If you never played Homeworld before and do like RTS that's one hell of a thing you've missed in your life!

some functions don't work

some techs in the game do not work right like when you tell the sentinals to form a forcefield around your mothership or around any ship they just form a useless little forcefield wall and refuse to form in a sphere around your ship, seeing as how the original homeworld and the original cataclysm diding have this issue but the more recent remastered version of homeworld did im going to guess they did not actually test play through more then the first 3 missions, so 3-stars for lack of testing, and lazy programing, the game on any other difficulty other than very easy is going to be alot harder because of this oversight.

Its like playing a season of star-trek

Amazing, tense, exciting, strange, creepy and horrifying all at the same time. You start out as a mere mining vessel, the lowest of homeworld society, something like our own real life equivilent of retail workers. No respect, or honor, nobody takes you seriously. This all changes when you're the sole survivors after digging up some flesh eating virus that managed to infiltrate some other vessel, infect everyone on board and spread itself all over the star system. Pity that none of the higher-ups believes your story until it becomes a serious problem. Story would be a sci-fi classic (and the actors and music are superb too) if it weren't for the fact almost nobody has heard of it before now, and if you've considered yourself a fan of the homeworld games and haven't played this by now then wtf is wrong with you? I love that this game is now back in the public, and didn't know it could have been done, but now that it's out it can hopefully be remade.

A Fantastic Game that needs a Facelift

First and foremost, Emergence is a really special game in the Homeworld franchise. Personally, I think it to be the better of the whole series so far. However, the game has NOT aged well. Not at all. While everything is basically intact, getting it to run on a 1080 screen, let alone UHD Widescreen, is about irritating. While I, most definitely, appreciate the hurdles GoG has gone through to get the game released it needs some technical love asap. My experiences with the game so far, multiple (think about 20x) the game did some weird glitching where it bounced on and off the screen just getting to the Menu screen. Then, adjusting the option panel to go as close to 1080 or above that I could resulted in the same screen bouncing as before. Also, on a UHD Widescreen this game just looks downright terrible. It's blobs, you're controlling blobs, you're attacking blobs, etc. Not pretty. Even dialing down the UHD to a native 1200 doesn't do it any wonders. It's just ugly. However, the game is very much intact. Everything you remember is there. No weird alterations or glitches, just pure Emergence gameplay. Now, while it is going to take me half the day just to get used to the blobs those with regular 1080 screens or even smaller, the game may look fantastic to you. Just an FYI to those with UHD Widescreens that run at 1440x? or above. Also, where it counts, having GoG release Emergence is not only unexpected, but it could be a boon to the franchise as well. Seeing as we've had the last two original Homeworld games re-released in HD could mean Emergence may get the same treatment. One can only hope. Because, well, it most definitely needs it. Especially with the hardware people are running today. Myself included in that bracket. If you get the game running on a 1080 screen or smaller you're in for a treat. While I don't think Emergence has the same beautiful rendering as H1 and H2 (even though it's on the same engine) it's probably the best in gameplay.Hands down
