15 years ago, we were awakened from the cryo-trays. We had survived the journey to Hiigara, our lost homeworld. Then they told us that the planet we left behind had been destroyed. Our families... friends... everyone not on the mothership - killed. Destroyed by an enemy we never knew.
We realized there was nothing for us on Hiigara. No property, no rights, no future for the "Sleepers". So we returned to the stars, fully awake this time, to work and rebuild our lives.
It is ironic, then, that we are the ones to discover an alien capable of exterminating all life in the galaxy. And only we are in a position to destroy it.
Fifteen years after returning to their homeworld, a Hiigaran sect unwittingly releases an alien horror. Now it's up to you to commandeer the Kuun-Lan, a Hiigaran mining vessel, and transform it into a combat-ready mothership. Build and control a fleet of ships, research technologies, and harvest resources while you search for a way to eradicate the alien threat before it is too late.

It really needs some technical love, i can get older games to run with high resolutions with no problems at all, but not this one...and i can't figure out why. No tutorial managed to save me. Sure, i could play with the native resolutions, but i will aways get a weird glitch in the textures where everything keeps poping in and out of existence, and it's almos unplayble on my end. Wish i could give 5 stars because i really loved it back in the day, but it feels like i wasted my money here, getting this thing to work properly turned out to be worse than the Beast itself
My Russian friend pestered me into playing this after I beat the Remastered Collection. He assured me it was the best of the original Homeworld games. I was skeptical, but as the game was on sale for a dollar, I figured what the hell. And oh baby, I'm glad I did. This is a superbly written game with an incredible story, grimdark atmosphere (genuinely scary at times), and levels that strike the perfect flow-state in terms of difficulty—neither too hard nor too easy, always a challenge and always fun. The menu and interface are definitely dated, but you get used to this pretty quickly, and it didn't interfere with my enjoyment after I spent about half an hour wrangling with it. Don't miss out on this, it really is the best of the old Homeworlds.
Awesome, I was never able to play this Homeworld game sadly, I played all the rest, I was sad that this wasn't included when the Remastered Homeworld came out a couple years ago, but atleast now we have this now, may Homeworld franchise Live on.
My thought on Homeworld: Emergence...
YOU HAVE TO BY THIS GAME!!!! It's amazing! I'm so thankfull for GOG for fixing this game. I had Homworld Cataclysm on my Windows 10, but It couldn't run propperly. But now, I can!
The game itself may seem a little cheesy to some people, but i find it really interesting. You must be carefull with your ships, because the last thing you want is to loose your elite squad of fighters. To make matters worst, they would become you enemies, thanks to the infestation spreading acoss the galaxy. You must eradicate the biomecanical virus however you can.
This was the first Homeworld game I played. I still have the original game CD & detailed manual. The game was originally known as Cataclysm. This game also introduced me to 3D RTS gaming.

Homeworld Cataclysm/Emergence is the best game in the Homeworld series as of this writing. Barking Dog Studios (BDS) did an excellent job with the story, unit design, level design, sound, graphics, and music. The detailed manual is packed with in depth information on the backstory & units you’ll build & fight.

The single player story takes place 15 years after the events of Homeworld 1. You play as Kiith Somtaaw, a small mining clan that discovers & captures a derelict beacon pod. While studying it, you accidentally release sinister organic nanobot infestation dubbed “The Beast”. The infection spreads to other star systems and it’s up to you to contain & destroy the infestation before it takes over the galaxy. Over the course of 17 levels, Somtaaw goes from miner to warrior.

The various light, medium, & heavy units you research, build, and use are awesome. Researching only costs time in the single player campaign. There is resource gathering in this game: you have to mine small asteroids & later crystals to earn Resource Units (RUs). You need RUs to build units & modules for your mothership & carriers. The additional Pilot View can turn battles into scenes from Star Wars, but this only works very well when seeing everything from the view of small fighter spacecraft. (They fly around much faster than the big capital ships).

Overall, this game is easy to pick up, play, and enjoy. The game also includes Skirmish & Multiplayer modes where you can play as The Beast or Somtaaw. There are talks of a remastered version, but locating the original source code has proven difficult. Hopefully Gearbox Software can still make a remastered version without the original source code.
