Hero's Hour

It's a nostalgia trip all over Heroes of Might and Magic with a bit random and hilarious RTS combat. The spell system is also well adapted to real time combat, although the spellbokk is very hard to navigate, wish they put more spells per page. Browsing just to find the right spell in the middle of combat is very frustrating. The worst bug I encountered was when I couldn't cast spells on the lower half of the screen for some reason? Probably some scaling variable got lost in translation on a 4k monitor. The graphics are kind of fun, pixelated old school style, but they wear out your eyes after a short while, especially in 4K. The cities are a bit lazy in graphic design, kind of wish it had a Heroes of Might and Magic 3 polish. The whole mood of HOMM3 was the excelent graphics and music, this game has a consistent style but it's nowhere near the excelent quality of HOMM3. Maybe a mod that would bring those beautiful cities back and the music too? Maybe the devs can contact the original artist to make it the real deal? Not 1:1 copy just... same quality.

This game has almost all of the classic elements from HoMM3, and improves on it in many ways. One of the best parts is being able to see *each* individual unit, so no having to deal with micromanaging "stacks" and coming up with workarounds for how the stack mechanics in HoMM3 could screw you over. The Auto-Battle for combat takes a smidge of getting used to, but once you grasp it, you will not want to go back to the turn-based version. The articfacts, buildings, and spells in v2.3.2 are wonderful, with lots of depth and variety. Spellcasting is fun, and feels powerful. Mana recovery is tough, but if you can get your hands on some "Grell" troops, they help with this A LOT (you do need a lot of them, and they cna be tricky to keep alive). If you are struggling with combat, you can pause combat at any time for as long as you want by holding down trhe RIGHT-CLICK button. This can allow you to move your pointer around safely as needed. All in all this game is fantastic. Yes it has issues, but the developer is active in his Discord, and is actively supporting and improving the game. If you managed to get this on sale, I guarantee you will not regret it.

So far there has been reproducable craches in every single game I have played. If I attack certain enemy heroes it crashes, only way to get around it is to let another ai player kill that hero, which is not possible in one v one games. It's a great little twist on the Homm strategy games. You'll feel at home whilst trying to figure out all the new rules. Very good game.
