Hard Reset Redux

I had no idea what to expect from this game when I saw it on a GOG sale for under $2.00. The screenshots looked good, and I liked Flying Wild Hog's work on Shadow Warrior 2, so I took a chance. Glad I did! This is a pretty well-paced, fast and furious FPS. It looks great, runs great, and plays great, even on my budget gaming laptop. What struck me the most was the artistic aesthetic. It looks straight out of the original Blade Runner. The streets are dark and grimy, high rises draped in near endless neon signs surround you everywhere, and when you look up, you get a sense of scale that reminds me of the classic Ridley Scott film. Flying cars scuttle about near and far, up, up, WAY up in the air to be swallowed by a persistent dark, rainy sky. I really enjoyed my ten hours or so with this game, and I only knock off a point because the story is a bit by the numbers 'ex military tough guy takes on the evil future corporation/AI' fare. The story unfolds in between levels with some pretty cool comic book style cutscenes, but there's just not much there. That, and the game could have used some more enemy variety. This game is on sale for $1.99 right now. It's well worth your time, and it's worth more than that, to be sure.

I remember hearing about this game around the time of its release but never really picking it up. Said "what the h*ck" when I saw it on sale and for that price, it's an okay time. It delivers on what it promises to be: A dumb shooter where you shoot enemies with big guns. The story is forgettable at best. You can tell that this is just the testosterone-fueled fantasy of some Polish guys. The fun part is more about strategizing fights and using your environment to take the least amount of possible damage. The dash mechanic, which is apparently part of this redux version, helps soften the blow a lot if you do find yourself out of position. Some bad stuff that has to be mentioned though: The level design outside of the fighting arenas is quite bad at times. Multiple times I was left wondering where to go. For this type of game where you're supposed to turn your brain off between fights, you really shouldn't have to wrinkle your brain to find the next lever to push. Weapon diversity is there, but it's so clunky to switch between the different modes of the two weapons mid-combat that I found it more useful to only unlock the stuff I would actually use and just leave the rest as is. The katana you find midway through feels very out of place as well and just used up time when switching between the other two weapons.

this has some old school vibes like HL2; great game, well optimized, I can't think of any flaws,was a good surprise

I have the original, that's a great game. This remastered version is quite similar, but maybe the original is better, buy that if you can. If not, this will also be good just set a higher difficulty.

Eehmm... WTF?! That's it?! That's the ending? I thought i was at the middle of the story! 5/10, 6/10 if not take the ending into account. Sword is useless. Most variations of weapons are useless. You need only grenade launcher, electric grenade launcher and rocket launcher. You can't crouch. Lots of stupid and unfair invisible walls will be in your way while pursuing secrets and collectables.
