EASILY SATISFYING, ANYTHING BUT EASY
Sling cards from your deck across two tactically distinct rows — melee and ranged. Gather more points in the duel against your opponent to win a round. Win two out of three rounds to win the battle. It won’t be easy, but no one said it should be.
NO HOLDING BACK, NO HOLDING HANDS
You start with 10 cards from your deck in hand, able to play each card right from the start. It’s up to you to open the game with your strongest unit, or save the best for later in the fight. How will your deck look and what will your strategy be?
The game requires an online connection to play and offers optional in-game purchases.
The best digital card game there is, in my opinion. IT is free, which to be fair most of these games are now but Gwent really shines because it isn't aggressively monetised at all. I haven't spent a penny on the game but am still able to individually craft the cards I require using scraps. I have supported CDPR by purchasing Thronebreaker (GOG) and Witcher 3 (Steam) but will now solely buy all my games through GOG. They are the best games developer there is right now. Long may that continue.
Gwent is easy to learn, difficult to master and a whole lot of fun. Thank you CDPR.
I never spent more time in any other game. It's the fairest free-2-play game I know - not paying does not reduce your chances of winning neither does it condemn you to grinding :) I bought a lot of cosmetics, but never spent a dime on anything else (apart from Season Pass that is just a few euros) and still I've had as much success as my skill have allowed me to have - which is not a lot (nothing like Demarcation's win ratio xD), but enough to keep me happy. Strongly recommended.
I finally hopped into the standalone gwent game and was surprised at how fun it was. I played a dozen games with several decks and thoroughly enjoyed them and even won a few. Then I logged out and went to dinner and the problems started.
Returning to play a few more games before turning in for the night, I discovered that the game seemed to be detecting a nonexistant XBOX controller on my system and forcing input through that. After some searching and trial and error I discovered that the 'controller' was actually my logitech keyboard. The game thinks my keyboard is an xbox controller and therefore nothing works properly. The mouse does nothing with any input.
There is no option to swap between controller and keyboard/mouse in the options AND this issue has A LOT of support responses on the CDPR website going back to 2017. Every reply is having users jump through hoops checking a dozen things that no other game out there requires. I didn't see a single post adressing a fix or a workaround that didn't involve uninstalling my mouse entirely or finding a new keyboard to use just for gwent.
And so, I literally, in the truest meaning of the word, cannot play this game. Further, if the forums are anything to measure by, many other people have the same issue and also cannot play the game either.
This game is waiting for a review. Take the first shot!
