FREE TO PLAY THAT’S WORTH YOUR TIME
A fair and fun progression system turns the effort of building a competitive collection of cards into pure pleasure — simply collect new cards to build decks with as you play GWENT; no strings attached.
STUNNING, ALL ACROSS THE BOARD
Beautiful, hand-drawn art and mesmerizing visual effects breathe life into every card, battle and battlefield, making GWENT fun to play and every duel a joy to watch.
SKILL BEATS LUCK
Crush the enemy with brute strength or outsmart them with clever tricks — no matter your deck, GWENT’s unique round-based gameplay opens up a world of strategic possibilities to play with when fighting for victory.
MORE THAN ONE WAY TO PLAY
Whether it’s a quick online game against a friend, a highly competitive PvP challenge, or something new and wildly adventurous like the Arena, GWENT’s selection of game modes has got you covered.
EASILY SATISFYING, ANYTHING BUT EASY
Sling cards from your deck across two tactically distinct rows — melee and ranged. Gather more points in the duel against your opponent to win a round. Win two out of three rounds to win the battle. It won’t be easy, but no one said it should be.
NO HOLDING BACK, NO HOLDING HANDS
You start with 10 cards from your deck in hand, able to play each card right from the start. It’s up to you to open the game with your strongest unit, or save the best for later in the fight. How will your deck look and what will your strategy be?
The game requires an online connection to play and offers optional in-game purchases.
Just another boring card game that requires no skill, its all about the best cards and luck. These type of games get boring fast. At the end of the day it brings nothing new to the genre. Sad.
While the original "Homecoming" release had some glaring problems, CD Projekt Red has spent insane efforts to bring the game to what is definitely its best, most balancable and most appealing state it has ever been in. I played closed beta, I played open beta, and while of course I sometimes get nostalgic, there is no doubt the game has never been better than it is now. It is the most free-to-play friendly card game on the market. Now let's get some new players on board, shall we?
Because of the bug of my leader's ability(Nifgaard),I lose the game. The ability is that taking the card on the row back and replay it,however the card disappeared .This is a good game, but I don't want to face the problem again.
Played extensively on console before coming here. Fun game and doesn't have a ton of RNG, which is refreshing and certainly doesn't remind me of Witcher 3's Gwent, which is okay imo.
My major issue is that the developers tend to develop one faction at a time which leads to imbalance everytime they release a new expansion and that they don't seem to consider frustration when designing. I mean NG might be okay win rate wise but if people auto quit vs the faction consistently, that points to a design issue. You can't frustrate your playerbase by not allowing them to play the game too much or they'll go play something else and that's something the devs need to consider.
DISCLAIMER: I haven't played the game nearly enough to judge all of its aspects. As a result, this will be more of a first impressions sort of review.
I never understood nor enjoyed Gwent inside of The Witcher 3 but when I bought Thronebreaker a couple months back, I decided to give this a go and finally say I've played at least a little of every Witcher game in my collection. I was pleased to see that this version of the game plays the same that it does in Thronebreaker, rather than the way it does in The Witcher 3. The Witcher 3 version of the game wasn't well-explained and was quite frustrating but in Thronebreaker and this version of the game, they both do a great job of explaining its mechanics.
I'm terrible at card games like this; the only one I ever did even slightly okay in was The Elder Scrolls Legends but I was pretty bad there, too. However, as far as card games go, this one is definitely among the best. The mechanics make the game feel less like a Hearthstone copy and more like a game of its own. It also manages to go beyond FEELING like a card game, giving the player the sensation of commanding a battle. This makes the game more appealing to me.
As I said, I haven't played enough to fairly judge every aspect but from what I can tell, the game's monetization is fair and consumer-friendly. I never felt pushed to purchase anything. I also loved how I got some rewards in Gwent by playing the other Witcher games (particularly Thronebreaker). This isn't a surprise, given CDPR's reputation for crafting an exceedingly consumer-oriented business model but still, it's always nice when you see it.
To conclude, if you are a fan of card games, chances are that you'll love this game. If you aren't normally a fan but enjoyed it in The Witcher 3, then you'll probably enjoy it a little here and there. If you didn't like it even in The Witcher 3, still give it a go as I didn't care for the original version but I've come to enjoy this version here and there.
