Spiders knows how to tell a good story, which unfolds little by little. The obscure dying world is gorgeous, and the dialogs are nice and also well acted. The user interface is a bit limited, but it works fine. I liked the tactic pause, a lot more useful than the slowing down from other Spiders games. You will need a gamepad if you want the best gaming experience, but this is a common issue nowadays.
Great graphics, great lore, great story and great game. Personally I will love to play another RPG taking place in this unique world.
The first half of the game is seriously good and I really got hooked. The side quests are surprisingly well made. The second half is not on the same level as the first one as the combat and the enemies get repetitive and there is some backtracking as well. Buildings are copy pasted and there it shows that it isn't an AAA. But still worth the price.
First half: 9/10
Second half: 6/10
Story: 8.5/10
Combat: 7/10
Overall: 8/10
-UI isn't really ergonomic to say the least even with a controller.
-Can't switch from buy/sell to craft, you need to close the discussion and talk again to the npc.
-The sneaking mechanic is awkward.
-Sometime quest can feel really frustrating and poorly writen (go to this remote place to prepare a ceremony and once you're there go back from where you came to craft two things that are necessary ! "couldn't ask you from the start even if i knew you would need it.") and then come back again.
-Staging can feel out of place (or litteraly absent) and dialog can be hilarious in a bad way.
-Combat system is really boring (probably the main issue i have with this game)
Still i like this game, the atmosphere is really good, it's pretty, Talents are original, artistic direction is interesting and seeing the impact of some of you choice is pleasant.
Game is big, around 25 side missions, main story 20+h long, many interesting places and great overall feeling. Its a game that has above average quality, nothing spectacular, nothing that will blow your mind, but its a great blend of many valuable solutions and well thought content. Fully recommended
Recently picked this up on sale. I'll admit I was about to give up about four hours in after running around cities. Once I was out in the world and started following along with the stories, I did really enjoy it.
PROS: Discovery Difficulty let me focus on story and exploration. Colonial Setting was a nice change of scenery from the usual fantasy/sci-fi. Had the most fun with my pistol and sword. Combat animations were good and enjoyed the abilities overall. Companions and their quests were interesting. Voice acting overall was very good with one exception (see CONS). Some of the environments were beautiful and liked the addition of camps.
CONS: Female character creation had only one preset I liked and it's the same face you see in most screenshots. Some were so horrendous. Reuse of NPC faces - They kept reusing this same female face. So the guard you just talked to at the barracks was also the tavern wench. Same with the male npcs. The native accents - Hearing "oi" over and over was awful to my ears and after awhile I started clicking through their conversations so I didn't have to hear it. The more I pondered the language, the more some things didn't make sense, so I had to let it go and ignore it. Would have liked to be able to increase all my talent points, rather than restrict the points I get so ended up using a mod to accomplish that. The romance dialogue should have been more intuitive, so again used a mod to fix that. There were some typos in the conversation subtitles.
Overall, considering this was a smaller company, I thought the game was well done and even bought the latest expansion, which was quick but enjoyable. Would have liked the companions to have more dialogue, particularly the romantic dialogues. But in the grand scheme of things, I thought the game was well done. Experienced no crashes or technical issues.
