Before man climbed down from the trees to shop in megastores and drink cappuccino, before the Earth wadded itself into a cool blue ball, before the Moon even existed, there was the Island. The Island, a massive fragment of a long-lost planet, hurtling blindly through space. Upon the surface of this paradise wanders the giant, Kabuto. Little does Kabuto know that the Island was home to others before him. In the oceans, there dwells a matriarchal race called the Sea Reapers. In their pride, they created Kabuto, as a defense against intruders. But Kabuto became conscious of himself, his loneliness, his pain - and he went berserk.
Space castaways, the Meccs piloted their ship through space, looking for their missing friends. If you haven’t guessed already, they ended up on the Island. Faced with yet another unscheduled layover while on their way to Planet Majorca, the Meccs decide to make the best of their temporary home. Just their luck - the natives are already embroiled in their own little war, and the Mecc visitors are most unwelcome!
Meccaryns... Sea Reapers... Kabuto... One island isn’t big enough for the three of them.

As a kid I always loved games like Godzilla and Rampage where you play as a giant creature destroying buildings. Kabuto was and still is my favorite Giant being. Hes funny crafty and cool. Playing as Kabuto makes up only a fraction of the greatness in this game. But to me personally its my favorite aspect.
I know it's hard to convince someone who is completey unfamiliar with this game to buy it, but you DEFINITELY should.
This one...
- is a perfect blend of genres, action, tps, rts, and sometimes arcade racing
- has great characters and excellent, well placed humour around the whole game (fake-credits list for anyone?)
- downright idiot storyline and weapons (in the most possible good meaning), plus excellent gameplay ideas that is rare to see even today (slow-time bubble and so on)
- all of that coupled with excellent music and sound effects
It is a game that means pure entertainment for me. It's still a great buy on its rack rate, but on sale it is a must.
This is truly one of the most innovative games I've played yet: a TPS/RTS game? Why hasn't anyone else done this!? And that would be enough for the game to stand out, but it stands out in a ton of other areas as well. Most of all, the story. While pretty short, it is quite varied, as you have three campaigns from three different races that give you a completely different play style, and best of all, it's a very funny and quirky romp.
Some of the flaws comes from the conflict between shooter and strategy play styles. You'll often find yourself fighting alone and trying to hop around the entire map with many different objectives, and without the ability to quickly zoom into troubled spots, it can be quite an annoying hassle to manage your base. Also, while the friendly AI is decent, the enemy AI is VERY thick most of the time.
Multiplayer is also uncertain. With so few people playing it, I can't seem to find any matches to join. Too bad this type of genre was never given another chance; another game might have been able to iron these flaws out :(
As most people have already noted, the single player of this game is fantastic; one of the only games I have ever found genuinely funny, the gameplay is fantastic throughout, offering both a solid pure 3rd action engine and also incredibly entertaining RTS-light base defense. However, what makes this quite possibly my favorite game of all time was the multiplayer; through mastering rocket/grenade/mine jumps, this game offered aerial combat unlike anything I have seen before or since, and when combined with the aforementioned RTS elements made for a consistently exciting, fluid experience. A must buy for the single-player alone, but if you can get a few friends together to play a mecc on mecc combat it becomes another game entirely.
