Description
Become a made man as you vie for power in a Chicago-like town during the
prohibition era. Gangsters is the strategy game where crime pays--and with
dividends! You can don the knuckle dusters and “persuade” the local
business owners to pay you for “protection” services. You can get your
hands even more dirty and navigate in the cutthroat world of politics. Or
simply go for the throat as you order your wiseguys to execute your enemies
in the streets and show the city who’s “da boss”. Gangsters gives you all
the power you need to get things done.
Played in a vast city filled with over 5,000 individual characters,
Gangsters feature real-time action in a highly detailed isometric terrain.
The game sports an easy-to use strategy planning interface, to
authentically recreate the seedy, violent, and ruthless world of gangland
mobsters. Remember, real power is never given, it’s taken!
ATI/AMD compatibility notice: Gangsters: Organized Crime requires graphic card drivers version 13.4 or older.
Run illegal businesses: extort, intimidate, bribe, and ruthlessly whack the opposition.
Become a Godfather and control every aspect of a 1920's-era mob "family".
Break the law and taunt the system or go legit and get elected Mayor!
Ever since I voted for it in the wishlist I was hoping to see this added to the GOG catalog. Not just so I could buy it since I still have it installed but to see how other people would react to one of my childhood gems.
Gangsters is by far the best game of this granted rather small genre. It's really captivating and if you allow yourself to get into the game it will consume lots of hours.
It is challenging and I'm sure even now I haven't figured out the best way to run the mob. Especially since the AI doesn't fuck around. You either pull yourself together or you're out of the game.
But in that case you'll just start a new run.
I've been lucky enough not to have the issues others have mentioned RE the menu screen not loading properly and/or the mouse freezing; I've found the video does play up occasionally which is fixed by saving and re-loading, and it crashes a bit too, but the auto-saves have spared me most of the grief so far.
For reference, I'm playing it on a Win7 i5-4690 w/GTX970.
The manual alone barely scratches the surface of the depth of this game, I'd recommend following the manual through the tutorials and then Googling a few guides (IGN, Youtube) to explain the mechanics in more detail and get ideas on how to approach a strategy, before expecting much success. A couple of examples of this are that the tutorials only demonstrate the rudiments of extortion, when there are plenty of other (more satisfying) ways to make money, and I don't think keeping your off-the-books income proportionate to your legit income (and dodging taxes) to avoid the notice of the FBI is mentioned at all.
As has been said, the planning interface isn't exactly intuitive (why does it want me to intimidate soup kitchens?!) and the RTS part of the game can be unforgiving, but be warned; once you get used to the interface and the mechanics start making sense to you, the amount of time one can sink into this game without realising is staggering.
If the idea of goading your rivals into starting massive gunfights with each other and the police, and/or managing the logistics of a large scale moonshine network appeals to you, you should probably look into this game.
This game can't played on Win 10. The rival gangs attacked my HQ every week since week 6th. I've been playing this game since 2001. It's a good game but it needs improvement. No other game, neither Gangsters 2 nor Omerta: City of Gangster can replace this game. Gangsters:Organized Crime is based on unlimited random mapping, unlimited random characters and unscripted events. These features makes this game great!
