Enhance your Frostpunk experience - buy Season Pass now to save 30% on all DLCs and get the Frostpunk soundtrack for free.

"(...) this is a game about finding reasons to survive rather than just the means to go on living."

- Adam Smith, Rock, Paper, Shotgun

"In a steampunk ice age, the only thing that can be crueler than the bitter cold are the decisions you have to make to keep your people alive."

- Stephanie Chan, VentureBeat

"(...) decisions push your morality to its limits for the sake of productivity, which could make for an captivating, draining adventure when the game releases later this year."

- Suriel Vazquez, Game Informer

In an ultimately frozen world, people develop steam-powered technology to oppose the overwhelming cold. The city ruler has to manage both the inhabitants and the infrastracture the citizens live in. Leader’s tactical skills face challenges, frequently questioning morality and the basic foundation of what we consider an organized society. Here optimization and resource management often clash with empathy and thoughtful decision-making. While city and society management consume most of the ruler’s time, at some point exploration of outside world is necessary to understand its history and present state.

What decisions will you make so the society can survive? What will you do when pushed to the limits? And...

...who will you become in the process?

THE CITY MUST SURVIVE

Frostpunk is a city-survival game where heat means life and every decision comes with a cost.

MAINTAIN THE HOPE

Survival is about hope and will to live. Your ability to spark and maintain these two in your people will be a determinant factor for success.

MAKE THE LAW

Society is a group of people abiding the same rules and sharing similar beliefs. Establishing laws and customs will be a crucial factor shaping your society.

WEIGHT YOUR CHOICES

Will you allow child-labour? How will you treat the sick and wounded? Frostpunk challenges a player’s tactical skills, while questioning one’s morality.

EXPLORE

The world covers not only bits of the past but also the potential means to secure the future of your people.

Decent

The game is just that... decent. There is nothing special about it. The graphics are nice along with the gameplay concepts. Though, the gameplay itself needs a lot of work. The game will let you go upto a maximum about of days, about 50. Though, if you trigger certain events earlier than intended, it will end sooner. I had one that ended at 37 days. Within these days, you have to start a colony from nothing to be able to withstand the "ultimate" freeze. This includes all needed buildings, stockpiles, colonists/automatons, laws, and research. If you don't have what the game determines you need by the start of it, you fail. There is no way around the time limit. There are also only three scenarios to choose from. Once you pass day 20 on the previous one, the next one becomes available. You don't even has to complete/pass the previous one, just survive long enough. There is no other way to play the game. There is no sandbox, full campaign, or anything else. When I first saw this and found out there is a time limit, I thought I bought a $30 demo. It does have most of the parts a survival colony needs to survive winter. It has coal, wood, steel, and food for resources. It has laws that you can enact. Some of these are permanent, and some unlock new skills or buildings. Though once enacted, they cannot be repealed. It also has research to improve what you already have, and unlock new buildings and skills. All-in-all, this is a demo. It seems like they rushed release of it because they were running out of money. There are plenty of parts that still need work and some parts that are "coming soon." They would have been better off offering it at a lower price and listing it as "still in development." Right now, we pay $10/scenario. I don't know about everyone else, but that is a lot of money for a solitary mission that only lasts for a couple hours at most.

Great game, but short

Great game. Excellent for intensive gameplay over a week or two. However, it is not repeatable, there's nothing unique when you play it again. The entire thing with all DLCs can be finished in 24 hours or less.

Boring and unrealistic

The idea sounds promising - a city builder and survival game in a steampunk setting. However, the game very quickly becomes a drag and just isn't fun to play. Here are some of the issues I have with this game: - Temperature jumps are completely random and make no sense. The developers didn't even pretend to create something like a real weather model. Temperatures are always in tens of degrees celsius, so it's either exactly -40, -50, -60 or -70 degrees. Jumps by 20 deg often occur within seconds, and it is often warmer at night and gets colder while the sun comes up. - The behavior of your people makes no sense. When the temperature drops drastically, you have no choice but to to crank up the generator or people will freeze to death and important buildings will shut down. Naturally, your city consumes more coal now, which will not be sustainable for long, so there is only one right reaction imaginable in this scenario: adding emergency shifts in the coal mines. but guess what - your people don't like it, and threaten to depose you over it... would they rather freeze to death? - Many buildings looks quite similar. They also have to be built very closely together. This has the effect that once your city gets a little bigger, you will be spending much of your time trying to find something on the colorless and bland map. - Building roads is often fun in other city builders.... but not here. You are very restricted in how to lay out your city, and the roads are just an unnecessary, annoying extra that doesn't add any value. It almost feels like the devs added building roads just because all city builders have it. - The music is unbearable. After an hour I had to turn it off. - It#s poorly optimized... despite having a very powerful machine, the game was always laggy for me and reducing the gaphic settings did nothing. - It's annoying that the Frostpunk 2 ad comes up every time you start the game.

One and only

Masterpiece. Atmospheric god freaking awesome. Very inspiring, damn good genre (love to read some novels within this freezing theme btw). Must have/must play. Amazing soudtrack. Thank you devs for this snow (and autumn) ride!⛄

Awesome survivalist game

Excellent survivalist game with a number of varied scenarios, all of which provide their own challenges. 5 star game play similar to the surviving mars series and strong storylines, with my only concern being relatively limited replayability since some tech paths are far more optimal than others, and the "endless" paths not being all that fun once the impending doom of the early game has been completed. Still, a great game that's well worth picking up
