Expeditions: Viking

Game mechanics were decent enough to keep me going, but middle to late game it turned out they werent well-though for endgame characters. Shallow story doesn't help either. All in all if you like turn-based combat and a little pinch of management/economy it's worth a try.

Expeditions Viking combines two of the best possible themes any game can have: 1) challenging, tactical turn-based combat and 2) an involved storyline with heavy role playing. Either of these attributes is enough to lure me into a game, but the combination of both together is a rare delight. The game feels similar to Paradox's recent game Tyranny (which everyone who likes this should also play). The story holds a lot of branching choices and multiple ways to achieve your goals. Memorable traveling companions, great writing, and a lot of conversation. Bear in mind this endorsement comes from someone who does, in fact, like to read. I even read novels. If you do too, you'll probably like it. Also, lovely art (character portraits) and pretty good music. The historical flavor, if not exactly accurate, feels very genuine. I hope they make many more in this series.

The RPG aspects of the game are great (character interactions, choices to be made, consequences for choices). The combat is tactically in-depth. The graphics, including animations, are mediocre, but acceptable. The one weakness is that the cursor (the pointy arrow thing) literally sits on top of text, and there is no work-around that I've found. They should have caught that before release. You can figure out 95% of what the text is saying, but it's still a pain, and something that should have been easy to catch, and easy to fix on the developer's end. If you like turn-based strategy with a good story and well-written characters, buy this game. But maybe wait for it to go on sale?

Kinda realistic viking story. Kudos to devs for an "english + norse names" language option! Game is really good. Amazing if you consider that it's not an AAA title. There are few bugs, but nothing game breaking in my playthrough. Some achievements (Ketill's quest, Gael princess e.g.) on GOG haven't unlocked even though i finished quests that unlock them.

This is a tactical rpg where you manage a group of vikings. The sound, graphics and gameplay mechanics are all good but the story is great. If you let it, it can make you weep.
