As the newly appointed chieftain of a modest Viking clan, you’ll have a village of your very own. While Expeditions: Viking won't be winning any awards for ground-breaking storytelling or innovative gameplay, it's compelling in just the right way that keeps commanding attention throughout. I found it to be a lot of fun, if a little unpolished in places.

Just plain horrible
Honestly, I don't know what game authors of positive reviews were playing, but this one is a piece of early alpha rubbish. Don't waste your money now, wait until they fix bugs and stupid features. In random order. Poor performance, long loading times, long saving times - played on a machine with standard, non SSD drive. After few hours, story is pretty bleh, maybe later it gets interesting. One interesting NPC character so far. Poor UI, and no minimap in towns. Overland map is just boring and not readable. Few cities, and a lot of camps with not much to do. No special encounters so far, just two or three types of maps. Also somehow I couldn't find any herbs anywhere... what camping action is be for that? Hunting? Combat difficulty is so inbalanced, that it is crazy. Whoever starts combat wins most of the time, and whatever factors influence who gets the first turn are hidden, maybe it's just random. If enemy gets the first turn, you'll have 1-2 chracters down before having a chance to react. In most cases losing your main character. Melee attacks always hit, the only way to block is with shields, and they lose durability equal to damage, so get useless after for 2-3 blows. If defender is succesful with blocking that is. On the other hand ranged attacks never damage them. Weird. Anyway, developers probably never heard of parrying or dodging. Stunning attacks work most of the time, apparently regardless of defender stats, so go figure. Cool (or cheap) when used by the player, not so much when used by AI. But the final straw is the time limit, that I wasn't even aware is present in this game. After playing for couple of hours, after camping I just saw 'Game Over' screen that appeared for no apparent reason. I thought it was a bug, reloaded save, tried again with the same result. After googling a little I learned that it was a - horrible - feature, that game ends after two weeks. Without any warning. In short, stay away from this piece of $#@^ until they fix it.
