One in a million...
So I've been gaming actively now for at least 20 years. I've probably played several thousand different games - heck, I currently own over 3000. What does this have to do with Exanima? Let's just say that Exanima, even in it's current state comes out on top for me. The same goes for the developers. I know talent and quality over quantity when I see it. This game, and its developers just tick literally ALL the boxes for me. Let's talk about something we all know about the game. Its development time. Yeah, it takes them a while to release an update. That's their quality over quantity right there. You can't expect them, with a tiny team and such high standards, to constantly blast out updates. While the content itself is lacking when looking at a yearly basis, the quality is not. The game is extremely well-optimised, looks amazing for its total file size and is technically impressive with its physics-based combat and exploration. Anyone who knows anything about game development should also know that it's very hard work creating an engine from scratch, let alone by just one person - which is the case here. Now I'm not going to get into the actual gameplay as I don't wish to spoil anything, no matter how small. I do have several hundred hours logged already(on Steam) and bought a GOG version just to give additional support to the developers. Out of all the games out there, this one deserves to succeed. One thing I can say is that the game asks for patience and a strong will. If you don't have one or both of these, the game can help you train them. Playing this game doesn't just make you a better player - it makes you a better person. It strengthens you psychologically, if you stick with it. Most games these days just make you weaker. Hold your hand. Reward you without reason. That doesn't happen here. I'm not the best writer of reviews, but I couldn't just pass on one for this game. Quality is high, and the game is only going to get better and more content over time.
