This game features a very deep, truly physics based combat system. This is not just some animation feature, it is a fundamental difference that is central to gameplay. Real momentum, forces and collisions are always at play here, every nuance of your inputs is crucial to the outcome. This will likely be unlike anything you've played before and may take some practice, but can be hugely rewarding and the skill cap is virtually infinite. It is not particularly fast paced or difficult but it does require you to pay attention, it is very tactical and just casually pressing buttons won't get you very far!

...doesn't mean you're useful.
Ok it's not ALL bad, I've played this on Steam early access but the game tries to be 'souls like' of ARPG and is heavy physics based - again, with top-down classic ARPG concept. And that is its problem and also makes it unique. It's as clumsy as it sounds. You get stuck to objects, turn like Titanic and so on. All with your mouse. You just can't get the required control with your mouse and difficulty is very steep. Unlike Elden Ring for example it's hard to 'git gud' unless developer reworks the concept. But I fear it's too late for that. Right now it's a proof of concept. Take it as you will, you might like it.
First I have to admit this game has a freaking good idea, do a good job handle themes of death, and many medieval hellish aspects such as medical, religion, oppression from the higher class in the society. The dungeon very well made. The core value of the game is the physics-based interaction between the player and all around us. There aren't any missions, we player dictate our own all objective and mean to accomplish it so it is really immersive. The combat proves to be very challenging and countervailing. The Ai system is quite unique, they seemingly have emotion and characteristic, also they are all pretty smart. But yeah here comes the big BUT. First, the game is unpredictable which is bad, cause when players sometime predict things they can come up with a plan which of essential for the player to think more and feel that they are clever. The second thing is the game don't know how or when to reward its player but punish them hard. It's just too much frustrated getting done all the difficult and tiresome work just for nothing, the dev should try reward player with lore and information about the story at specific places that kind of relevant, stop using random looting item, you got beaten, lose your weapons and while stumbling on the ground you got beaten again and again. Please add more health potion cause you sure want to keep Derin alive to boast about your dialog system. The third problem is what happens with this game-saving options, none know how it work. In Short, what happens is the developer success in programming something extraordinary to work but fail to make it become a game. Think about the word Game and start learning from the basic idea.
First of all the game has a GREAT concept: a physics-based engine in real-like medieval environment, how can it be not cool? BUT I think developers could add more of this casual-player conveniences... I mean add more easy mode without permanent death and may be make a tutorial, cause this game realy needs one. Also more like my dreams or some expectations: I'd like to see a world like in Kingdom Come or even Dark Souls (come on, everybody calls your game "DS with physics"). May be some day we'll even see a multiplayer feature, I want to believe in this at least. I did not see any real cons in Exanima. But it's not because the game is ideal, it's because we have rather few content for jugement here, and may be because I play little more than 2 hours, but I think I won't change my mind in the future. Anyway I wish this project to be developed in a great game, it has a big potential. Good luck, devs! And enjoy, players!
With the exception of its beautiful graphics, I have nothing good to say about this game. There is nothing innovative or refreshing about this game: just pure unforgiving frustration and misery.
Well, I say unforgiving... It's quite forgiving in the sense that if your character gets defeated in battle, you lose a small amount of your HP permanently. You only truly die when the amount of permanent health loss is equal to or exceeds your HP. Cool.
However, what's not cool is that when you are defeated, you drop all your weapons and torch on the floor which are pretty hard to pick back up due to their small on-screen size. This wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the fact that the guy who just defeated you is still there, waiting, probably with his friends, ready to ruin your day all over again. Your character starts to attempt his return to his feet with all the grace and dignity of an elderly gentleman with a double hip replacement who has had to call the nurse up to help him off of the couch. Urgency is clearly no priority; It's not like you're being whaled on by some topless guy with a wooden bat or anything.
If you're lucky enough to get back to your feet before you are defeated, there's simply no opportunity to rearm yourself in time before you are defeated again. And this cycle of up and down continues until your character is dead and you have to start all over again.
The experience would be significantly less stressful is defeat means death. I could accept that. But I cannot accept this state of faux death that only exists to prolong the inevitable. I should also mention that your character is in a full suit of armour with a mace and the enemies are topless with make-shift weapons.
I do not accept the disclaimer that you'll suck at this game at first but things will get better. I simply do not think things will get better. I appreciate that it's "in development", but nothing short of starting again is going to make me want to play this game.
