Description
Explore, fight, survive and unravel mysteries in this unique and unforgiving 3D isometric RPG set in an original dark, low fantasy world. Exanima's exceptional attention to detail and realistic simulation of all things aim to provide a deeply immersive and dynamic gameplay experience.

This game features a very deep, truly physics based combat system. This is not just some animation feature, it is a fundamental difference that is central to gameplay. Real momentum, forces and collisions are always at play here, every nuance of your inputs is crucial to the outcome. This will likely be unlike anything you've played before and may take some practice, but can be hugely rewarding and the skill cap is virtually infinite. It is not particularly fast paced or difficult but it does require you to pay attention, it is very tactical and just casually pressing buttons won't get you very far!
  • A deep skill based combat system
  • Complex and smart AI
  • Fully interactive environments
  • An advanced damage model with accurate collisions and locational protection
  • Roguelike elements
  • Arena mode to hone your combat skills.

Not your average dungeon crawl

Not a meme game at all, gets infrequent updates but is still an ongoing project. updates are usually targetted at improving the engine behind the game. This game is atmospheric, challenging, technical, and has a grounded feeling and theme. I would also consider it a technologically outstanding game, aside from being a unique experience all around. It almost reminds me of playing amnesia: dark descent sometimes. Game has some very unsual characteristics and requires technical skill, so don't walk in expecting your experience from other ARPGs to carry over, or you will be disappointed.

Flawed potential.

- Does not have any form of a conventional save game system, you respawn at start of level if you die or you have to begin anew. - Extremely steep learning curve, even more difficult to understand than EvE Online, Factorio or Rimworld. - Lacks a tutorial, which makes the already steep learning curve even steeper. - Combat is supposed to be dictated directly by player action but it can be very diffcult to judge distance between enemy attacks and the players, some strikes might hit but do no damage. - The world is incredibly dark, and being forced to choose between shield and torch in the first level of the game's story-mode is outright incompetent design, in particular for new players. (^ Having to choose between a torch so you can actually see anything or a shield to defend yourself or refunding the game, is a no brainer - refund the game.) - Movement is also physics based, you can trip over an object in combat, fall and then be killed by an enemy. The same can also occur for the enemy but the enemy is not a human, it does not feel frustation or get angry. - The entire world is cluttered with random garbage the player cannot use for anything, it sort of gives an illusion that the objects could potential hold some use but no, its just random garbage. - Healing items are too rare, barely one pr level and as a new player this can be extremely unforgiving and a major headache. - Game lacks a comparison tool for the moutain loads of loot the player finds cluttered around everywhere and having to fiddle around with what the character is currently wearing is obtuse and frustating. Conclusion This game has a crippling identity crisis and is fundamentally flawed so I cannot recommend it in any form, shape or way.

It works...

The game has issues. The lighting is obnoxiously dark. There's too much grind. The interface is something out of the 90s. Everything is grey and brown. The movement system is designed for fighting and is terrible at exploration. On the other hand the physics combat does work and there are plenty of weapons and armours to choose from. Whether or not this game is worth playing depends mostly on how much you want physics combat to be a thing.

A truly unique experience!

Exanima is highly recommended. Despite still being in development, the game already offers an absolutely unique experience, with both its vast, multi-level dungeons to explore and the engaging 'Arena' mode, where players can immerse themselves for hours, building a squad and advancing to master class. Pros & Cons + Pros: Unique Combat System: "Easy to learn, hard to master" – the combat system requires precision and patience, offering a deep and rewarding experience. Realistic Physics Engine: Every movement and hit feels weighty and meaningful Atmospheric Dungeon Design: The focus on exploring a vast, multi-level dungeon keeps the tension and sense of discovery alive. Arena Mode: In addition to the main game, the Arena mode provides hours of fun, as you train and level up your squad. Challenging Learning Curve: The controls may be awkward at first, but after a few hours, they become second nature. - Cons: Development Progress: After years of development, the game is still not finished Part of an Unfinished Larger Project: Exanima is only the prelude to the planned RPG Sui Generis, which has almost become a "legend" due to its long development and the high expectations surrounding it. No Manual Saving: Exanima uses a strange checkpoint-based saving system with checkpoints that are far apart. Manual saving is only possible through "cheesing" the game, which can be frustrating.
