DUSK reintroduces you to a world where butchery and bloodshed must be mastered... if you're to survive 'til dawn. Inspired by Doom, Quake, Blood, Heretic, Hexen, Half-Life, Redneck Rampage and all your '90s favorites, while featuring a soundtrack by metal music mastermind Andrew Hulshult.
In three distinct campaign episodes hand-crafted from straight outta the '90s, players will battle through an onslaught of mystical backwater cultists, possessed militants and even darker forces and attempt to discover just what lurks beneath the Earth. Featuring a vast arsenal of badass weaponry including sickles, swords, crossbows, rifles, dual-wielded and double barreled shotguns and incredibly necessary grenade and rocket launchers, DUSK brings unapologetic retro action from start to finish.
In addition to the main campaign, DUSK features an Endless Survival Mode, putting you front and center against wave after wave of merciless enemies.
And for those looking for an extra challenge, DUSK also offers the chance to go head to head online to battle your friends in DUSKWorld arena multiplayer, where darkness hosts the worst of humanity in surprising new ways...
DUSK features cross-play multiplayer and the exclusive THE GOGATIORUM map for endless mode.
Intro:
You love retro shooters along the lines of Doom and Quake? You owe it to yourself to play Dusk. Play on the Cero Miedo difficulty to live the boomer experience.
Positives:
+ Smooth controls.
+ Great movement mobility.
+ Appropriate ambiguous storytelling.
+ Great aesthetics. Despite going for purposefully antiquated graphics.
Negatives:
- The "dog in a cage" enemy has no telegraph for its bull charging attack.
- The "Mama" enemy type can kill you really quickly. But not necessarily in a fair way.
I have been following this game for over 2 years now. I received a free promotional early access copy for my support on Steam. I then purchased 2 copies for my friends because I wanted to support David and the NB crew. They are a great gang of game dev folks who have helped me more times than I could count.
The game itself has some of the most entertaining and detailed level design of the past decade. Levels flow so well, and create an excellent mix of exploration and murdering cultists. The gunplay is really well polished and frantic. The music, good lord, the music is fantastic. I'm a firm believer that music can elevate a game to another level, and Andrew does that here.
The game wears its influences front-and-center, but at the same time, feels very fresh.
Some portions are very classic, like the Duke Bros boss fight, where the two bosses are just two big ass robed cultists with higher health caps. While some portions of the game go full abstract, taking you on a tour of your own decent into madness.
It's kind of odd, because this is a game I really felt a part of. I was always talking with the team and testing out different builds.
They made the whole process feel engaging, and they have some of the best community building skills I've ever seen. I hope to work with these guys on a car combat project one day, if Oshry ever nuts up.
If you like classic FPS games, and are tired of AAA corporate micro transaction ridden generic trash, then please pick this up. These are the kinds of devs we should be supporting, and a perfect example of the true potential of indie development techniques.
DUSK is a fast-paced, action filled, joy ride where you're put into the boots of a treasure hunter who needs to shoot his way through hordes of enemies to survive in the menacing town of Dusk, Pennsylvania. The game play is simple and fun, never gets boring. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys retro-style, action games that are reminiscent of the glory days of olde.
