DUSK reintroduces you to a world where butchery and bloodshed must be mastered... if you're to survive 'til dawn. Inspired by Doom, Quake, Blood, Heretic, Hexen, Half-Life, Redneck Rampage and all your '90s favorites, while featuring a soundtrack by metal music mastermind Andrew Hulshult.
In three distinct campaign episodes hand-crafted from straight outta the '90s, players will battle through an onslaught of mystical backwater cultists, possessed militants and even darker forces and attempt to discover just what lurks beneath the Earth. Featuring a vast arsenal of badass weaponry including sickles, swords, crossbows, rifles, dual-wielded and double barreled shotguns and incredibly necessary grenade and rocket launchers, DUSK brings unapologetic retro action from start to finish.
In addition to the main campaign, DUSK features an Endless Survival Mode, putting you front and center against wave after wave of merciless enemies.
And for those looking for an extra challenge, DUSK also offers the chance to go head to head online to battle your friends in DUSKWorld arena multiplayer, where darkness hosts the worst of humanity in surprising new ways...
DUSK features cross-play multiplayer and the exclusive THE GOGATIORUM map for endless mode.
Gameplay is snappy, responsive. Guns are fast and have satisfying animations. The setting is standard for this genre, but no less immersive and enjoyable.
I think the voice acting is intentionally goofy and I think it's hilarious.
The secrets are like really hard to figure out, especially when your character slides around like they're on oil and you don't really want to slow down, you wanna shoot the bad guys.
Awesome game. I'd recommend it.
I had a good time with Dusk. It has satisfying shooting action, well-crafted levels with at times exceptional environmental design, and a kicking soundtrack. That said, it may not be the second coming of Jesus like some other reviewers seem to act.
Honestly, I could have used a level map at times since it was not always obvious where to go next. The boss fights were decent enough but nothing special, and the story as usual is just an excuse for the setting.
That said, overall it's a good package and better than some of the much bigger budget shooters I've played over the years. Pretty impressive when considering it was mainly created by only one person. You definitely can't go wrong picking this one up if the modern on-rails shooters just aren't scratching your itch.
First episode was cool, but after that it started to be a slog, and then by the third episode I almost uninstalled it but decided to finish it just to say I did. The weapon aiming seems a bit off, the crosshair for the rifle is LITERALLY a dot like a pixel, the wall-climbing thing is very janky, the OOO DARK AND SCARY gimmick wore off quick and became very annoying, especially when at various points in the game it plunges you into complete darkness with no flashlight, and there were multiple points in the later episodes where I was wandering around for quite a while trying to figure out what to do next. Who wants to do platforming stuff in a FPS game? Kind of a big let down, honestly.
This game is better than Amid Evil. Why?
It is easily answered. The weapons are meater, harsh and hard hitting. Enemies do good amounts of damage. Amid Evil is good and uses a great Unreal Engine Filter (wrong term in that game) but misses on old-school weapon choice.
In Dusk you get everything. Handguns, Shotguns, Maschine Rifle that makes Doom weapons look old, Bolt Action RIfles, Rocket Launcher etc.
The Enemies are far more likeable than Amid Evil, where in my opinion, the level quickly get too long but here it feels fast, dark and Bloody, pun intended. It feels like playing Silent Hill 1 combined with Blood but with the eye cancer from Wolfenstein 3D only when playing on 8-bit Resolution Filter.
The music is just awsome. The areas varied.
Just buy it if you like old-school schooters.
