DUSK reintroduces you to a world where butchery and bloodshed must be mastered... if you're to survive 'til dawn. Inspired by Doom, Quake, Blood, Heretic, Hexen, Half-Life, Redneck Rampage and all your '90s favorites, while featuring a soundtrack by metal music mastermind Andrew Hulshult.
In three distinct campaign episodes hand-crafted from straight outta the '90s, players will battle through an onslaught of mystical backwater cultists, possessed militants and even darker forces and attempt to discover just what lurks beneath the Earth. Featuring a vast arsenal of badass weaponry including sickles, swords, crossbows, rifles, dual-wielded and double barreled shotguns and incredibly necessary grenade and rocket launchers, DUSK brings unapologetic retro action from start to finish.
In addition to the main campaign, DUSK features an Endless Survival Mode, putting you front and center against wave after wave of merciless enemies.
And for those looking for an extra challenge, DUSK also offers the chance to go head to head online to battle your friends in DUSKWorld arena multiplayer, where darkness hosts the worst of humanity in surprising new ways...
DUSK features cross-play multiplayer and the exclusive THE GOGATIORUM map for endless mode.
Or you could just play Quake instead. The art direction reminds me of some weird, forgettable 90s game. And a bizarro atmosphere that can't decide what it wants to be. Fun to play, but I don't get the overwhelming love for this one.
quake,or doom,or any of the original games we played on 486-Dos,commodore c64,amiga's .
but then theres a reason for that,,you really did have to "be there ,at that time, swearing loudly as you tried to load the damn game for the tenth time..grr"..
Now its just a nostalgic fart ,mindless pewpewpew and sh1t graphics for those who like to pretend they were at the beginning of computer gaming, they werent, they were too busy ridiculing us back then" Its for children" bla bla,,,tssrs..
and of course it fits in with the present young 21st century console pewpew'ers, who struggle with anything requiring thought.....(should make them load n play it on a spectrum or c64 or amiga32 hah)
here ,i was there,at the beginning,shooting Llamas on my speccy/c64/amiga/bbc/etc.. ;)
then i grew up and i now expect more.
First things first, I adore Brutal Doom. Not to the level of playing it now and then, but to the level of learning a MAP EDITOR so I could make some interresting levels for myself (and fail miserably). So I'm pretty much okay with any graphics - the execution is what matters to me.
So, what can I say?
It's a pretty good game! It's been a long time since I turned off my phone with a YouTube, because modern day games are so WEAK AS GAMES that I need to constantly listen to something else. This game is very strong as a game. Stronger than ARMA, Bioshock, Destiny, Fallout ($), Metro and Wolfenstein TNO.
The game itself is a fun mix of Serious Sam (movement and shooting) and Quake (overall mood, amount of enemies and good soundtrack). It is also adjustable enough to be considered an FPS, and by that I mean that ALL shooters SHOULD allow players to adjust their game setup with the same level of details as Dusk allows. Say hello to old "adjustable seats" story (I remided it for a 5 times allready). The game is full of fun references here and there it has it's own meta (exploits). Levels have a descent amount of secrets. And what is more importaunt it looks a lot worse than it plays...
What is BUGGING me is that this style is CARTOONISH. It might be solid. It might make sense. It might be cool. But it's an art style. The level of details (shells or bullet holes) in not consistent with the level of simplification (most of models including guns). Quake for example had a very consistent level of details and I do know that it was because of restrictions at the time. The enemies are also not particulary interresting by their nature but and by their design. They DEPICT what they actually should look like (what I as a self loving ahssole could like). Cartoonish style does not work well with grim existential horror that developers tried to make
I also must apologise for my poor rnglish. I barely can pick as much words as I can do in russian. But I feel like I had to tell it.
Don't trust good reviews. The gave is overall made no so badly but it's maximally frustrating and will bring you despair, sandness and sickness.
Also it's easier to find a secret room than where to go next.
Also it's monotionc: you will hear the same sounds thousands of times and fight with the same monsters again and again. Not much bosses in game. Not much variations of the same enemy type.
One star for qualified soundtrack, one star because the game is playable and passable.
