As a forgotten entry in the DOOM series, DOOM 64 received some much-needed attention through its 2020 remaster. If you thought this was nothing more than a Nintendo 64 port, you thought wrong. This is a highly unique classic FPS experience, and the re-release brings it to wider audiences.

The best Doom...
Got into boomer shooters a year ago, I've played maybe 25 or so since then, and I'd say Doom 64 is my favorite one. I never played a Doom game before (besides 2016), but now in my 30s I'm finally delving into these games. I strongly recommend this one. Good arsenal of fun weapons, level design is excellent, secret hunting is addictive, and it's extremely immersive and atmospheric. Plus once you beat the vanilla game, you can get Doom 64 Complete Edition, which includes all the custom maps made by the community taken from a few different PC ports from the last 20 or so years. It essentially doubles the size of the base game, while also improving other things, plus it's very customizable.

As fun as the original DOOM PC games.
DOOM 64 adds a bit more depth, darker lighting and an even more grim, bleak, superb atmosphere, but otherwise it's the same simple, fast-paced action. LEGENDARY ambient soundtrack, borrowed from the PS1 DOOM.

Better than you think
Devoted fan of OG Doom. Finally gave this a try. Enjoying it quite a bit. Similar to the OG but different enough to make things interesting. Definitely some great level designs in there. Sometimes I'd say it's better than the original. Soundtrack is more akin to Quake which is a really nice change of pace. Certainly more horror and less action.
