I have never played the orginal Doom 64 on Nintendo 64 hardware and i regret it. The game is an banger and very different to Doom 1/2. Ambient music, light atmosphere and new designs. Recommend it 100% and runs perfect
The quake port by the same studio had a bunch of accesibility features that aren't in doom 64. an option for an easier to read menu text would be a good start but the biggest issue is epilepsy. This game has flashing lights like CRAZY sometimes. One of the powerups makes your screen flicker super fast and It's annoying as hell. I'm not even epileptic and I'd like the option to disable it.
Great game though it would be 5 stars if they had an option to keep the power up from flickering your screen so intensely
This game is the best classic Doom in my opinion. It is so immersive, creepy, and dark. The ambient music gives you an unsettling feeling, which makes the game that much more intriguing, and it's fitting for fighting the legions of hell. The level design is awesome and the game looks great overall. It is definitely the best looking classic Doom. I 100% recommend this game!
Doom 64 looks, plays and feels like the "real" Doom III: how it should have been for us that played the original first and second chapters back in the 1990s. But even for those who were not around in that era, it is still a wonderful ride. Old school gameplay at its best - look for keys to open doors, understand how to negotiate levels, watch out for traps, explore every nook and cranny hoping to find secrets, and above all, pump lead/energy/rockets/chainsaw blades into your demonic enemies! Monsters are similar to those found in the first two instalments but restyled with a pleasing and "refreshing look, and the excellent conversion to the Kex engine ensures a smooth and flawless experience. I bought it with a 60% discount, and at this price, it's an absolute bargain. Go get it!
