This RPG Experience is one of the best I had in years and I am only 110hours into the Game and not even near the end. (I love doing side Quests...)
Pros:
Story and dialogues are brilliant and witty and keep you hooked for hours.
Characters are interesting, dark and deep.
The world is responsive to your actions.
The combat is the best mixture of tactic and pure devilish devastating mayhem you can imagine.
Tons of different approaches to turn the tides of battle against challenging foes.
Challenging foes.
Neutral/Positive::
Your choosen characters sometimes interfere with your playstyle because of their own agenda.
But that's how real characters should be, right?
Negative:
None for me. No bugs, gamebreakers, or performance issues.
A Pure joy. Can't wait to see what's coming next from Larian!
Another awesome game from Larian.
I think the first D:OS was already great but they were successful in making an even better game.
Despite of all this awesomeness, the last act(Arx) need to be reworked.
positiv:
+ a lot of content
+ more than fair pricing
+ free Definite Edition
+ some interesting new fighting mechanics
+ total freedom (you have a lot possibilities of interaction e.g: you can kill everyone, if want to do this/
different ways to solve quests.
+ some cool character designs
+ every playable character has a background story and his/her own quest
+ a lot of actions have consequences
neutral:
= main story is not really revolutionary or special (you are the chosen one and have to save the world)
negativ:
- the last act is mixed up and messy (but they want to rework it)
- a lot of spikes in difficulty (some fights are quite easy others too difficult) i was adjusting the difficulty all
the time
TL;DR: Divinity: Original Sin 2 is one of the best RPGs ever made.
One of the biggest challenges for a game developer to bring the classic tabletop RPG experience into video game form is translating the freedom of choice into an otherwise strict and closed environment. There are many tactics used currently in order to create the illusion of freedom in many games: A character creator, branching dialog trees... Even a morality system. These tactics are usually pretty transparent and easy to identify.
DOS2 manages to up the ante on that illusion over any other RPG I've ever played by making choices much more opaque. Sometimes you realize you are making a choice... Should you kill this person or show them mercy? Howerver, DOS2 also has choices that you do not even realize you've made, such as going straight up a path and getting into a fight rather than taking a side path and avoiding the fight altogether.
When you pair that aspect with a beatiful artstyle, an amazing soundtrack (seriously, "Sing For Me" is a tear jerker when you hear it in game), and some of the best voice acting you've ever heard in a game, it's easy to see why this game has been so highly rated across the internet.
Now, that said, no game is without it's problems, and DOS2 is certainly not perfect. Unfortunately, the combat system in the game is a bit weak, most particularly around the Physical/Magic Armour concept. While this has the potential to increase strategic thinking (i.e. "This enemy has less Magic Armor, so my mage should target them!"), the fact that most enemies has near equal amounts of both armours encourages you to build a party focusing on either physical -OR- magic damage, but not both. This aspect really decreased that freedom about which I spoke above.
Overall, the game is incredible, even with the weaknesses of the combat system. It's a definitely Must-Buy for any RPG fan, especially those that love tabletop RPGs. This will be a game on Top 10 lists a decade from now.
I definitely recommend this game, don't get me wrong. Even if you are not into cRPG's, this game will get your attention. It's beautiful to your eyes and ears. The story is not something to amaze, but it has its moments. Combat is a bit.. strange for lack of a better word, but you will not be disappointed. There could be some changes for better QoL, such as the highlighted objects, maybe a bit more explanation to the separate trees, and for the love of god, something should be done about skills. You can't play for over 50 hours and STILL find new spells and then have to readjust your character.
Again, i would definitely recommend if your are looking for your RPG dose.
If you like looting and roleplaying in general do not question yourself anymore!! Got a lot of content to clear, took me a long time to complete my first playthrough, i played it in tactician mode the first time, then started playing it in explorer mode with a friend, but i found it to easy, so anyone looking for a challenge go for it... the only flaw i found, is that there are a few cheap fights (in tactician mode), i would say this is bad design, devs were just trying to force difficulty for the sake of it, but really it's only a few of em.
