Larian's greatest work.

Positives: You are encouraged to mix and match skills with no requirement to stick to a specific class. Most of the skills stay viable in late game and harder difficulties, Lots of secrets to find. The game really rewards exploration and the player who talks to everyone. Lock-picking is very useful unlike many RPGs where it's not worth the investment. Great lore and world-building. The writing is witty and amusing throughout the entire game. Lots of side quests that are just as fun as the main story. Negatives: Difficulty spikes that will no doubt filter most people. There's no real way around them aside from saving often and making sure you do all quests in an area before moving on so you will be higher level. When you reach these sections try drawing enemies away from packs either by using a bow or magic to pick them off one by one for a easier time. You need to install blankname's Div2Patcher to fix the frame-rate issues and bugs. Check pcgamingwiki for the link to said fix. After installing I personally had a perfect experience playing the game but this may vary for some users. Out of all the middleware RPGs I'd say this is the best imo. More fun then Two Worlds or Gothic and it's on sale fairly often so I think it's worth trying out if you like the genre. It's a shame that we never got a real sequel as this game is far better then the turn-based sodomy simulators that Larian went on to create. ESG really ruined that studio but hey what can you do?

mediocre

The skill system: I played the so called battlemage and the skill choices are small and my playstyle was mostly pressing Magic missile and dodging. 4/10 Items: Nice with a lot of flavor text, set pieces and possible customization with charms and auras 9/10 Story and Dialogue: The overarching story was cliche and felt forced to me(why dialogue choices if the outcome is the same) though the dialogue is very well written(often goofy) and some side characters excel. 6/10 Music: Its good and sometimes very fitting though the engine made sometimes unpleasant switches 7/10 graphics: good, sometimes too shiny for my gusto 7/10 conclusion: i played the main game with the addone in one go because it was well reviewed here on gog. i was somewhat disappointed but its an ok game.also, the massive cliffhanger between the main game and the addon isnt a positive mark in my book, though i was unaffected.

One of the finest Western RPGs!

This game flew right under my radar upon its initial release, as it received lukewarm reviews at the time. Since then, the whole game has been reworked and fixed up. As it stands now in this Developer's Cut, it's one of the finest western RPGs of the 3D era. It might look a little rough around the edges for current standards (literally, since the engine does not support high quality anti aliasing), but the gameplay is at least on par with The Witcher and Dragon Age while adding more depth and choice. No game has sucked up my spare time in recent years like Divinity 2 has. All RPG fans should try it out. Highly recommended! Also: The third installment of the Divinity series is on Kickstarter right now, called Original Sin, and looking really promising. So check that out and pledge if you're interested.
