Dead Space™

This is one of the best horror games I've ever played. It's climatic: you can feel claustrophobic, trapped inside giant planet cracker. The music, the atmosphere, the ambient sounds - all add to absolutely amazing surroundings. As for such an old game the graphics still looks very well. Zero gravity moments and vacuum are one of my favorite. This game feels polished to every detail. Your weapons, suits, places you visit all seam to be put there reasonably. The only thing I found irritating was the jump scares - necromorphs tend to do that all the time. However that's also the reason behind game keeping you vigilant at all times. I was actually tired near the end - my nerves were at their last. As it should be. Absolutely lovely game with plot that also makes sense. Plus a point for sense of humour: there are two mini-games. Allowed me to forget for a while what Isaac was doing there.

A horror game that doesn't rely on cheap jumpscares, instead bringing tension and atmosphere to the full creep level. Gameplay is extremely fun, the levels are great and the story just keeps bringing you back. This is the true way to play Dead Space. To this day, the graphics still hold very well. Do not play the remake of this. Not only is it not DRM free (Denuvo) but they unnecessarily raceswaped an important character for racist reason, uglified some of the characters, added "non binary" bathrooms... Cashgrab for "modern audience". Screw that, get this instead.

Great game, but the port is a bit wierd. Enabling V-sync in the game seems to cap the frame rate at 30. Turning off the V-sync makes the framerate sky rocket while also causing lighting glitches and other physics based issues as it's not meant to run at the framerate is jumps up to. Would recommend turning off V-sync in game and then forcing it through your card driver while capping the frame rate at 60 at the same time.

I played this recently on Origin. Had it years before it came to GOG, but never got around to playing it. While it is somewhat old, it still has great atmosphere. Graphics and sound help up really, overall production values are very high here. Gameplay consists of navigating a space ship and trying to fix it in order to get away. Characters on board give you assignments and you need to carry them out. You have to collect money in order to buy upgrades, weapons, ammo, etc. and then use it to try and survive the freakshow on board. Some weapons are suited for some situations, others for other enemies. Simple, but well done and fun. Story is pretty nice, it gradually unravels throughout the course of the game. It does leave some questions, but it fulfils its purpose as a backdrop for your situation and a driving force for your motivations. Only thing I would complain here about is that its generally designed for consoles, so the controls will feel somewhat awkward for PC gamers. Its not that bad, you will get used to it, but just something you should keep in mind. Overall, its a must for most gamers, especially those who like horror elements.

Dead space 1 is a horror game that is mostly only scary in the beginning of the game when you the player are not familiar with the setup. However you will love this game once you do since the Desgin of the gameplay is rock solid, and has a unique gimmick and setting to reel you in. Combat - Fun, tense and someitmes unpredictable. All weapons feel fun to use and have their shining moments, all enemies have specific ways to beat them, all levels have a unique challenge to them that makes the game fun. Only complaint is ammo drops can be a bit frequent so play on hard for a more horror focused experience. Sound - If you are aware that musical stings put people on edge you can expect this to not be the case by hour 2 since thats about all i can remember from the soundtrack. For the action setpeices however it was great and elevated the scenes. Graphics - 2008 was a long time ago but this diamond still shines in the correct conditions, since its a console port i imagine the brightness is this hight to compensate birghtly lit living rooms so i advise to turn that setting down as much as possible. The UI of this game is astounding and it never pauses meaning you are always in the game world immersed in the action even if you are sorting inventory. There are moments when you panic as you sometimes get caught with your pants down... Necromoprphs are a sight to behold they are amazingly designed and have an awsome variety of ways to attack you, the sound cues for certain enemies will also scare you if you hear them before they show up. PLOT - Well you are a space handyman, go to level, fix a problem, kill the enemies and survive against the infection, there is more intrigue regarding how the necromorphs invaded the ship but that is more juicy so i will let you experience that for yourself. Must play for all fans of horror, or john carpenters the thing, or anyone who loves stomping corpses open!
