You are Isaac Clarke, an engineer on the spacecraft USG Ishimura. You're not a warrior. You're not a soldier. You are, however, the last line of defense between the remaining living crew and deadly reanimated corpses. The undead have become Necromorphs; horrific zombie-alien hybrids that won't succumb to traditional means. Fortunately, your offense is equally unique, as the high-powered mining tools at your disposal provide the means to fight against the threat.
Messy monster slaying.
The Necromorphs are unlike any enemies you've seen before. Headshots do about as much damage to them as flicking rubber bands. To survive, you'll need to dismember their insect-like limbs, one at a time.
Improvised weapons.
There aren't many traditional firearms aboard the Ishimura, but there's plenty of stopping power in Isaac's toolkit. Send horizontal or vertical blasts of energy at enemies with the Plasma Cutter, remotely control a high-speed sawblade with the Disc Ripper, and fill hallways with wide swaths of destruction with the Line Gun. Switch things up with alternate fire modes, and purchase upgrades to increase ammo, power, and reload speed.
Real-time attacks.
Whatever you do, don’t drop your guard. Everything takes place in real-time. That means any action you take, whether it be reloading or digging through your inventory, gives the Necromorphs a perfect opportunity to attack. This nightmare has just begun and it’s up to you to get to the bottom of what happened here.
Dead Space don't need a remake, this game haven old very well, fuck, his control and gameplay are basic for the rest of TPS.
This game is so iconic as RE4, The last of us is shit compare to this game.
I glad that this version let people play to more of 60fps and with all graphics to maximum.
the gog port have some issue, like some crash or Issac hold his gun even if you are not fighting or shooting, but only when you die, he reset, and yeah, this game is incredible.
DEAR GOG, BRING DEAD SPACE 2 AND 3 PLEASE.
Dead Space is a phenomenal game and a worthy successor to Resident Evil 4, its obvious greatest influence. Though derivative of that game in a lot of its conventions, Dead Space is such an incredible example of craftsmanship that it stands out despite that. Herein you'll find a perfectly applied understanding of the medium, the horror genre, and the audience. It's not going to blow you away with a story full of potent meaning or a bunch of clever gimmicks or some kind of innovative jank that nobody has ever done before because that's not the kind of good it is. It's just a great video game, polished and seamless and seasoned to perfection. It's a masterwork made by master craftsmen.
That being said, this port sucks. I don't know if it was like that when it released or if it's become a victim of later operating systems, but it's got problems. They're fixable problems, though. I've heard people say they had no issues, but I had so many on start up that I'm incredulous of that claim.
Mouse look is super laggy, and turning off vsync doesn't totally fix it. Worse yet, the mouse keeps recentering your view like it's a joystick or something. There's an easy fix for this, just find the mousefix mod and put its .dll file into the Dead Space folder. After that, turn off vsync in game, and, if you're a NVIDIA user, go into the 3d video settings of your NVIDIA control panel, tun on vsync for Dead Space app, then manually set the game's framerate to whatever your monitor's refresh rate is. That fixed the mouse controls for me, and it will also solve a lot of other issues related to the framerate, such as Kendra's glitchy hair, and the game erecting invisible walls at loading barriers (or whatever is going on there).
You'll also probably notice that the game is way too bright even with the brightness all the way down. If you're a windows user, just go to C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Electronic Arts\Dead Space and change the Window.Gamma from 0 to -0.5 and then save the file.
I can't go past the second door because Dell won't shoot/ fire at the target you need to destroy to open it. I uninstalled and reloaded the game, watched some walkthrough, disabled V-sync.. whatever.... Nothing works. I can't shoot with the joystick as with the keyboard and mmy other joystick. It can't possibly be me who's unable to press LT and RT at the same time, then I don't know what is going on, but there seems to be extensive problems with computers. Any other control works except shooting/ firing.
A fantastic game with a few flaws. 3rd person perspective with “over the shouldEr” view plays much like FPS, although you can shift the camera to view behind you. Interesting take on enemy encounters; headshots are no longer optimal! Controls can be a bit wonky, leading to many situations where you take a lot of damage just trying to get the enemy into view. Not as reliant on jump scares as FEAR (although there are a few), more reliant on ambient sounds - whispers, singing, creaks and moans of a broken ship. Engaging “mini-games” of sorts created out of unique encounter situations. Good storyline, although at this date many elements seem contrived, and I figured out many of the twists early on. But that’s a matter of having experienced similar twists in other games that likely copied from this one. Definitely worth buying for anyone who enjoys FPS sci-fi!
I played this quite a bit on 360 and no lie my first playthrough took ages because I found myself too scared to want to continue. Eventually I pulled up my big boy pants and faced the horrors head on. Boy am I glad I did. This was one of if not the scariest game I had ever played at the time and it still holds up today in all aspects, scares, sound design, gameplay, even graphically the game still looks remarkably good for it's age. After several years away I have started a new playthrough of the entire main trilogy and I am thrilled to see this game still holds up and I couldn't be more excited to go through the harrowing journey on new superior hardware and new DLC I never got the chance to play before. It's important to note since I brought it up GOG doesn't currently carry 2 or 3 that I have found at the time of writing. However Steam has you covered in that department and if this game happens to be on sale here and not there or something like that then I would still say go for it. The main point here is this game is one of the best sci fi horror games around and imo you would be loony to pass it up. At least dip your toes in. You may find yourself diving in head first afterward.
