Dead Space™

This is a great action/horror game. The environments still look awesome to this day, and the atmosphere is fantastic. Here are all the fixes for modern systems to get it humming along. Should only take about 10 minutes max and will get the game looking and running great. 1 – Controls – install Dead Space Mouse Fix from PCgaming wiki. It’s just a dll file you drop into your game folder. Super easy. 2- Framerate – Turn off in game V-sync and cap at 60 externally via Nvidia Control Panel or Rivatuner or something. Do not attempt higher frame rates as it causes errors. 3- Broken gamma – edit the settings file in the EA folder. \AppData\Local\Electronic Arts\Dead Space\settings.txt to a negative value. Automatically set to 0.000000. I play at -1.000000. Set to taste. 4 – Antialiasing – The in-game is not very good. This game will run on a toaster, just super sample. I can almost do 4k/60 on a 1050ti, so you shouldn’t have a problem. 5 – Anisotropic filtering – Force 16x via Nvidia Control Panel as in game is like 4x. 6 – Ambient Occlusion – There is no in-game option for it, but the game is flagged to allow you to force it via Nvidia Control Panel. Makes a huge difference in visuals, turn it on! Now go enjoy this awesome game!

It is impossible to play this game with keyboard and mouse. In menu mouse is too fast, and at aiming it's too slow. It feels very wrong and it is very frustrating. On the other hand, gamepad (xbox 360 pad) have very big dead zones on sticks, so it is very imprecise and also frustrating. Maybe game is good, I don't know, for me it is impossible to play. I'm giving 3 stars as a neutral rating.

What can be said? The game puts Resident Evil and most other horror games to shame. It's a buckets of fun and full adrenaline, grit, action, and suspense. EA really knocked it out of the ballpark with this one. Shame they let the franchise fall into mediocrity. Dead Space 2 was great if not better but 3 got over bloated with unnecessary additions like the terrible weapon crafting. I really hope they release a trilogy HD master one day.

Was looking forward to the game from all the positive reviews here, but I was never able to make it to the first save checkpoint due to the following problems: - Without vsync frame rate is so high that there seems to be some script timing issue that breaks the game very early on. - With vsync on there is so much input lag that the game is almost impossible to control. Having no provision for manual saving/loading means I had to sit through the entire intro and play for five minutes to even attempt to diagnose the issues I was having. Additionally, gameplay (not frame rate & not input lag) was sluggish even without vsync. Inability to independently control the camera was extremely annoying as well, especially since the game did such a poor job with it.

Excellent console game, but the PC port is an exercise in frustration. Nearly unplayable due to control/aiming issues. Disabling V-Sync did nothing to help. Very disappointed with this purchase. Waste of money.
