You are Isaac Clarke, an engineer on the spacecraft USG Ishimura. You're not a warrior. You're not a soldier. You are, however, the last line of defense between the remaining living crew and deadly reanimated corpses. The undead have become Necromorphs; horrific zombie-alien hybrids that won't succumb to traditional means. Fortunately, your offense is equally unique, as the high-powered mining tools at your disposal provide the means to fight against the threat.
Messy monster slaying.
The Necromorphs are unlike any enemies you've seen before. Headshots do about as much damage to them as flicking rubber bands. To survive, you'll need to dismember their insect-like limbs, one at a time.
Improvised weapons.
There aren't many traditional firearms aboard the Ishimura, but there's plenty of stopping power in Isaac's toolkit. Send horizontal or vertical blasts of energy at enemies with the Plasma Cutter, remotely control a high-speed sawblade with the Disc Ripper, and fill hallways with wide swaths of destruction with the Line Gun. Switch things up with alternate fire modes, and purchase upgrades to increase ammo, power, and reload speed.
Real-time attacks.
Whatever you do, don’t drop your guard. Everything takes place in real-time. That means any action you take, whether it be reloading or digging through your inventory, gives the Necromorphs a perfect opportunity to attack. This nightmare has just begun and it’s up to you to get to the bottom of what happened here.
Input lag issues make the game unplayable.

Controlling / Steering / Turning your avatar is harder than driving a Greyhound Bus with NO Power Steering and one of the front tires flat. Windows recognized my Logitech F310 Controller ( Xbox clone ) and set it up ... Dead Space refused to use it. V-sync adjustments did nothing. Mouse acceleration adjustments made control problems worse.

Could NOT make it past the first ?zombie? / ?critter? ambush due to control issues.
First off, get Dead Space Mouse Fix and don't enable vsync in the menu. Those two steps and you're golden. I also cap the framerate at 60 through the nvidia control panel and I haven't had any door or physics glitches. Runs great on my i7/1060.
This game is over a decade old but the presentation is still top notch and the fantastic art direction ties everything together. Every playthrough I notice something new and disgusting. Not kidding when I say the UI design here is still probably the best I've ever seen in a game, in terms of serving the player essential information while also integrating itself seamlessly into the game. Lighting and textures still hold up and the sound design is as good as it gets in the genre. Missions are generally well thought out in service to the story and there is good variety in the weapons, each of which have a secondary fire mode.
Having beaten this game many times on both PS3 and 360 I can say the pc version is my favorite way to play now. The increased framerate and precise control really brings the Ishimura to life again. Required playing for action/horror fans.
Dead Space 1 is definetely my personal favourite in Sci-Fi Horror Games. I first played it on the PS3: awesome. But on PC.... The controls are just awful. Non-deactivable mouse acceleration, different mouse speeds on X and Y axis are worse than anything. I can't play the first mission. There's no 3rd party mod support for this, or at least I haven't found one after 3/4 hours of googling.
Game:
Awesome. Horror game in a Sci-Fi setting with a good amount of weapons and enemies, which all behave differently. Focus was set on horror and not on action. No auto-heal and different ammo for each weapon, while having a very limited inventory makes you think about, wether you take an addtitional stack of ammunition or a Med-kit.
My recommendation:
If you have a PS3 or Xbox 360 lying around, get it there. Dead Space 1 isone of the worst PC ports.
Just make sure you download the Dead Space mouse fix from the nexus or pcgamingwiki and install that. Also be aware that vsync acts as a 30 fps cap in fullscreen mode. When you go above 30 fps the physics start to get a bit wonky at times. I personally played the entire game capped at 165 fps and had no issues aside from enemies rag-dolling into the air on occasion when killed.
Those issues aside Dead Space is every bit as amazing as it was when I first played it back in 2008. This game sports some of the best audio design I've seen in a horror game which helps create an amazing atmosphere. You've got the RE4 styled gameplay and a story that keeps you hooked to the end with a few twists along the way. If you like horror you owe it to yourself to play Dead Space and it's sequel.
Also do yourself a favor and play this version and not the "remake" which inserted lots of woke propaganda like "all-gender" bathrooms, race-swapped characters, uglified women, trigger warnings, etc.
