Revenholm 2.0
I initially brushed off the Dead Space series as just bad horror games, because what can be scary when you can freeze it, cut its legs off, and bash its face in while it falls down in slow motion? My first actual experience of the series was the surprisingly good ios game, which made me realize that, while it may not be scary, it sure is fun. It wasn't long after I had the whole series on PC. I can't help but think the idea for Dead Space came from the devs playing the Ravenholm level of Half-Life 2 and thinking "wouldn't it be cool to build an entire game around this?" They have the same basic premise: killing zombie-esque monsters with unconventional weaponry focused on dismemberment and using your surroundings, but with the variety and flexibility to keep it enjoyable for the length of a full game, rather than just one level. You have a telekinesis ability which lets you pick up and fling objects around, as well as a stasis ability to freeze stuff in place and a whole arsenal of weapons that will cut and blow up your enemies. The enemies are designed around the dismemberment mechanic with attack patterns that change or body parts you can pick up to use as makeshift weapons with telekinesis. You will fight in a variety of environments, such as zero-g where enemies come at you from all directions, or the external hull of the ship where no sound means enemies can sneak up on you easier, as well as a variety of more normal environments inside the ship. On top of that, the story is minimal, but solid. All in all, this is an extremely well designed game that is boatloads of fun. Dead Space 2, while not on GOG, bears some mention because it is one of my favorite games. It takes almost everything Dead Space did and improves and expands upon it. The story is a little worse, but the characters are stronger. If you enjoyed the first game, definitely check this one out.

Great.
Disclaimer: I do not own and have only played a little of the PC version. I've only played some but I've seen bits of walkthroughs and this game is great, much scarier than those boring walking simulator ''horror'' games. I recently played the removed mobile version on my device and loved it so I played some of this and it's just the kind of horror/shooter I enjoy.

Must have for horror fans
Bought the Box-Version recently, but I guess the game is the same. Graphics still do look nice although it is an quite old game. Controls are ok, but Isaac moves slowly (Well it is no FPS so...). There are different weapons, but if you're good at aiming you probably can get along pretty well with the stadard weapon. But sometimes, at least in my case, you'll definetely need the big ones! You also have different quirks and most of the time you don't need them, but a few times, in different situations, they are essential. Isaac himself doesn't talk at all and that makes this game even more scary (you will feel like completely left alone very fast, and this feeling won't go away since everything else there is hostile), besides the different sounds, animations, all the darkness, jumpscares and... oh.. these terrifying, disgusting mutants. Further this game is not only about gore, it is also psychic horror since everyone there goes crazy and loses their mind and starts praying to something, except our quiet Isaac. Compared to Outlast (took this one because its known widely), Dead Space is definetely more scary for me. 12/10 (Because I like sci-fi and those disgusting monsters) Objectively I would say 8-9/10.

A great game that could be better.
The graphics are fantastic, story line causes interest. If this was an FPS it would be even better. Personally, the over shoulder view I find to be a little hard to control and there is a lot of keybinding controls to remember. If the game play was simplified I think it would be much more enjoyable. But, to each his own.
