You are Isaac Clarke, an engineer on the spacecraft USG Ishimura. You're not a warrior. You're not a soldier. You are, however, the last line of defense between the remaining living crew and deadly reanimated corpses. The undead have become Necromorphs; horrific zombie-alien hybrids that won't succumb to traditional means. Fortunately, your offense is equally unique, as the high-powered mining tools at your disposal provide the means to fight against the threat.
Messy monster slaying.
The Necromorphs are unlike any enemies you've seen before. Headshots do about as much damage to them as flicking rubber bands. To survive, you'll need to dismember their insect-like limbs, one at a time.
Improvised weapons.
There aren't many traditional firearms aboard the Ishimura, but there's plenty of stopping power in Isaac's toolkit. Send horizontal or vertical blasts of energy at enemies with the Plasma Cutter, remotely control a high-speed sawblade with the Disc Ripper, and fill hallways with wide swaths of destruction with the Line Gun. Switch things up with alternate fire modes, and purchase upgrades to increase ammo, power, and reload speed.
Real-time attacks.
Whatever you do, don’t drop your guard. Everything takes place in real-time. That means any action you take, whether it be reloading or digging through your inventory, gives the Necromorphs a perfect opportunity to attack. This nightmare has just begun and it’s up to you to get to the bottom of what happened here.
Satisfying shooting action, has its own style and fiction, good storytelling, scary only in the beginning but doesn't get old. Would definitely recommend to buy if if the money did not go to EA.
...and running on older computers, goes also on my old macintosh air 9.0c compatible through wine windows emulator actual in version 4.14, thanks for nice shooter.
PC version suffers from a random changing difficulty bug which is related to the save load system from what I read, this means that if you choose normal difficulty the game could go to the highest difficulty, you will get less ammo drops and be killed over and over, the menu still say normal difficlty too even though it wil be set on the highest.
I did mange to still finish the game but it runied the experience on my second playthrough which was on PC, my originally Xbox360 playthrough was better despite the worse perfromance and graphics.
Maybe get the newer one if they also fix the issues with that one.
Honestly I did not think about it as a Survival Horror Game, because of the jumpscares, atmospheric elements and enemy placement (You will love and hate it at the same time), which were absolutely superb compared to other games. The thing which gave me goosebumps was the ressource management. I had existencial worries when my ammo was low, which contributed to the horror aspect of this game. The first part of the game was literally the hell for me as the ressources were scattered everywhere and you had to discover every way to find ammo and ammo was the only thing which granted you an Illusion of Safety on Hard, as every Necromorph was a lifetreathening Danger. The different kinds of Necromorph perfectly fitted into this game. For Example the babies gave the game a thirddimensional aspect as they were crawling over the walls while the other tried to kill you on the ground. New creatures were introduced at right times to bring variety to the gameplay, thus making it even more intense. At first you were helpless against new kinds of creatures only knowing that tearing of their extremities will bring you temporary tranquillity, but after many encounters you had a strategy against them. The Gameplay supports this as you can use your environment for your advantage. The Story is also really good written as it fits the atmosphere and you symphatize with Isaac and the others in their fight for survival. But the pinneacle of this game is the atmosphere. Blood on the wall, corpses, desperate tries to fend of the necromorphs, nasty enviroment as there are many Vents and many blind spots and the totally awesome sound. Playing with Headset is not the right Idea for someone who is easily scared. The only thing I did not like were the controlls and the maddening cursor. In my opinion this game is the king of Survival Horror as it combines many aspects of other successfull games to one Hell of a ride.
