Dead Cells puts you in control of a failed alchemic experiment trying to figure out what's happening on a sprawling, ever-changing and seemingly cursed Island. Immortal but crippled, your last resort is to take over bodies in order to move, explore… and fight.
While you may well be immortal, the corpses you possess are not. Each time your host is destroyed, you will be sent back to the dungeon to find yourself a new one and start again...
Experience a Roguevania, mixing an interconnected world, branching paths and unlockable skills with the constant adrenaline-pumping threat of permadeath. No checkpoints. You either vanquish the final boss in one go or you try again. However, you keep some of your progress for successive runs new paths you’ve unlocked, access to new levels, mutations, abilities and weapons.
Tough but fair combat, responsive controls, challenging foes, and of course, the emergency panic roll to get you out of trouble make for a visceral and cathartic action game.

The Devs are giving CD Projekt Red a run for their money in regards to putting gamers first. Simply - one of the best games and dev teams in existence. Thanks *so* much for all of your support.
Picked this game up on my switch around the same time I bought Hollow Knight (another must own game in my opinion) and at first I hated the perma-death aspect of the game but later grew to love it since unlike other games I've played the fear and anxiety that comes from all your hard work being somewhat totally lost is much more present than just getting sent pack to a save point. Personally I love the soundtrack as well as the graphics. The combat is fast as hell, especially at later stages, but it's incredibly fair. The game has a wide arrange of weapons and builds you can make w/ a sort of risk-reward level up system. The only thing I can really say I don't like about the game is that some of the boss fights seem very bland. Like the rest of the game is balls to the walls type of fun but when the boss fights comes around it just turns into dodge, hit, dodge spam which in my opinion can get very boring but nontheless this is a must own.
No documentation - you need a wiki to see how half of the mechanics work and what the items do. The devs were just too lazy to add that information in the game.
DLC sections are generated in the game, but not available unless purchased. You'd travel for 10 minutes down a corridor only to be faced with a dead end unless you BUY THE DLC FOR $9.99!!!!! Pathetic and insulting behavior.
Full of bugs too that the devs also don't bother fixing. Makes you wonder why you should bother purchasing the game instead of pirating it...

Okay I might not have gotten through all the content there yet, but so far I'm rather enjoying myself.
The combat is a bit more floaty than I'd expected initially, having read the description of souls-lite. Instead of slow deliberate combat it tends to be rather spammy with a bit of cumbersomeness to cancel out. But with the sheer amount of enemies thrown at you, the slower approach seems to be disencouraged.
The levels are procedurally generated, but mostly straightforward with slight diversions to pick up more loot...or find a trap.
Once you've beaten a boss you tend to get a powerup which is the metroid-ish part of the game. This could be usable in the preceding levels to allow you to take an alternate next level, rather than unlock a completely new area it is more a different harder path the same direction on future runs but don't expect the abilities to give you new abilities to play with (so far).
I'm quite enjoying my time with it, though it is a completely different beast than I'd expected reading the store page. Where you expect Metroid-ish exploration there's more (classic) Vania. And where you expect slower paced Vania combat you find more spamming and swarming of a Metroid-y game. Keep this in mind and you might find something worth your while.
But if you feel intrigued by exploration, branching paths and abilities encouraging backtracking, combined with deliberate combat, you might want to hold off, at least for now.
To My Fellow Gaming Enthusiasts,
Dead Cells is top shelf metroidvania and although in my opinion it tarnished by its roguelike elements and randomly generated levels, this has quickly become one of my favourite games. I haven't much to add to what has been said other than to concur that Dead Cells is a must have for metroidvaniophiles.
