Description
I am writing this under an appreciable mental strain, since by tonight I shall be no more.

Dagon is a 3D narrative experience in madness based on the cult short story of the same title by the master of cosmic horror and weird fiction, H. P. Lovecraft himself. It’s an interactive portal into the world of the controversial genius and his highly acclaimed Cthulhu Mythos, open to both newcomers and long-time devotees.

The change happened whilst I slept.

Step into the shoes of a former ship officer and morphine fiend, and dive into the Stygian Abyss of a drug-addled mind. Uncover the unspeakable, long-drowned horrors on a distant eldritch island and wallow in Lovecraftian dread.

I think I went mad then.

So make yourself comfortable in front of the screen and experience cosmic horror first-hand in this 100% faithful adaptation of the original story. It will only take about 30 minutes, but you may never look at the ocean the same way.

Features:

  • immerse yourself in a fully-voiced narrative experience in real-time 3D
  • discover the origin of the Cthulhu Mythos and the twisted world of H. P. Lovecraft
  • treat yourself to a short, free horror that can be experienced in 30 minutes
  • learn about the original story, its author and their impact on culture etc. while playing
  • buy an optional DLC to support our future projects and get additional goodies (including an audiobook and a screenshot-filled e-book)

Warning: side effects may include insomnia, delirium and acute cosmic horror.

A short Lovecraft visual novel

First of all this is not a game. It's an audio book of Lovecraft's short story "Dagon" with some interactive scenes to visualize the story. In most scenes you can look around at 180° and click on an object to continue the telling or find hidden clues that give you background information about H.P. Lovecraft. The "playtime" is about 30 minutes. The english audio is great and the dark ambient soundtrack fits great for the atmosphere. The weakness of this project is the main problem most media about Cthulhu tales have. It's about unspeakable horror which presence and visability alone are the overwelming that it drives men crazy or into siucide. It's nearly impossible to print this in a picrue or visualize it right in a video game. In general the design is great when it comes to earthly places like a hotel room or a hospital. Dagon's island lacks a bit in details and when you have a glimpse at a Great Old One it's... underwelming. So it's a great small journey into Lovecraftian tales which shows deep love and faszination for the author but lacks in depth and level design. A nice cosmic horror snack. Not more not less.

Not bad but it's not a game

It's a nice little "visual novel" based on a Lovecraft short story. It has a nicely done visual with a very limited view and unfortunately a few bugs where you get stuck or suddenly your view gets thrown around in 180. 30m play time at max. My main issue is that while they took the time and effort to actually have voiceover, the acting is just hideous. There is literally no emotion in it, almost like being read by a text-to-speech engine. Where is the madness, the darkness and hopelessness from the voice acting? It is okay if it's not a game but a visual novel. It's okay if it literally has 30 minutes of play time. Fine. But if it has voice over, for the love of god, make that "actor" actually feel into the role! This ruined the whole experience - even though the surroundings were nicely done and planned.

That game could have been an email...

Well, to be honest this is not a game, this is a slideshow of barely animated pictures., on which you need to click from time to time to get to the next scene. It is an adaptation of a short story Dagon by H.P. Lovecraft, fully voiced, neither very good nor very bad. Music ambience fits the narrative, the voice actor is good, the animated backgrounds are uneven - the exteriors look decent, but the interiors are below the expectations. In the "game" the player has very limited freedom of movement, and everything seems to be prerendered, but framerate is nevertheless bad and camera move is sluggish and jerky. This whole thing takes about an hour to go thru. If this type of horror is your thing the experience is ok, at least it gets the story right. It's free on GOG and at this price - give it a try, just don't expect to much.

Fantastic Audiobook

I wouldn't call this a "game". It's more akin to an audio book. That being said, the visuals really add to the storytelling, and the voice actor is fantastic. I wish more books were in this format.

Interesting media presentation

This is not so much a game, but an interesting media interpretation of a old HP Lovecraft story. I always had a bit of trouble getting into Lovecraft's writing because he did so rather cryptically. But this presentation gives the appropriate atmosphere that people experience when they get into the mind set of his tales. It's defintely worth to check out if you're a fan. It's not quite an audio book and not quite a movie, but an experience into the mind of HP Lovecraft.
