Let me prefice my review by saying that I used to play the pen and paper Cyberpunk2020 RPG, and have been very interested in CP2077 since I first heard about its development in 2013. I feel that CDPR mostly achieved what I had hoped this game would be.
They built a fantastic Night City
They told a great story
They supplied a wealth of character driven side jobs, some of which tie into your main story quite well
They provided a staggering amount of minor side gigs, jobs and NPC interactions.
I would have liked to see more character customization. The wealth of clothes that you can put on V are nice, but since clothes and armor rating are tied to each other, any playthrough on higher than normal difficulty is going to mean you'll look like a hobo most of the game. Would also have been nice with a wider range of cybernetic cosmetics. Why can't I make V look like a Maelstrom ganger if that's what I want?
On the topic of bugs, you don't need me to tell you that the game them, but from having played a little over 120 hours now, I can safely say that on PC, none of them have been game breaking. I do feel that there are too many for a tripple A title that has been so long in development, but at the same time I also appreciate that CDPR overreached a little rather than play it super safe. The bugs will be fixed in time, and then we will have a candidate for game of the decade on our hands.
It is a very bad GTA but an awesome RPG. Pity it was marketed more as a GTA-like game. A lot of backlash seems to be on older consoles but I am playing on PS4 base model and got very few minor bugs on it. Nothing spectacular from patch 1.01 at the day the game was released. Currently on 1.05 and just minor bugs.
Storylines are very good. Very much rooted in the original source book by Mike Pondsmith.
Good narration, very good side quests, some are really epic like helping a cop with finding kidnapped nephew... True Detective dark storyline (5 stars for person writing it. For some games this would be the main plot).
It is my impression that the way engine works, gradually loading in world details as they are needed (JIT way) is the main cause of a lot of bugs initially present.
Now, onto the bad and ugly.
Huge amount of mechanics was cut out. And you can find where the stitches are.
No. 1 Free DLC should be Netrunner expansion. I wish there was more stuff in cyberspace. All these decks around me and I can't really feel like a netrunner! It could be an awesome mechanic for online part of the game. Both in PvP and PvE.
Driving model is terrible. Fix it please. Especially: falling into water, crashing with objects and other cars, damages, implementing rag doll system when impacting hard surfaces. The state it is currently in is ridiculous!
The police system is just as bad. Spawning behind player randomly. There should be a slower progression in gaining stars. Car chases, if needed. Max-Tac should appear over player position after 4 - 5 star is gained to jump from air vehicle and make you feel like the cyberfreak you are!
A huge potential wasted due to rushed release.
Thirdly, the air vehicles. There should be an option to buy or rent it: Delamain Delux Air picks you up to fly over the city for some $500 per fare.
I hope this gets better with DLCs. "Hope," since the overhype is so massive, that my actual hope is that there will be a CDPR to make DLCs...
Absolutely great game. Visuals are stunning, music is great, story is captivating, and characters feel just alive. So far I am enjoying this game so much. Despite the fact that my computer specs (acording to the internet) should not even be able to run the game, it plays flawlessly. CP2077 does it's own thing and does it really well. I was sceptical becuase I played all three witcher games before and finished only the first one, the other two bored me so much I just couldn't get in to them. So I was sceptical about CP at first but just a few minutes in to the game and I've already fallen in love with this game. I can already tell you that this game will be the next skyrim for me. Absolutely stunning in all the aspects that I was interested and boy did CDPR deliver... hell overdeliver. From me it's a 100/10 Great work guys :)
