It's not GTA and that's a good thing

I don't know why people got this game expecting "grand theft auto in the future". It's like buying a Dungeons and Dragons game and expecting "grand theft auto in the past". Cyberpunk 2020 was an RPG about being a smart criminal who has bigger things to do than street crime. Surprise we got an RPG about being a smart criminal who has bigger things to do than street crime. People complain the wanted system is broken, why are you fighting with the cops? That won't make you any eddies. I'm playing the game like an RPG and enjoying it quite the bit, and maybe it's because I have a beast of a computer but I so far have only gotten visual bug, no crashes and nothing else serious. The game has great stealth gameplay for an open-world RPG, I really enjoy the hacking aspect, gunplay is great but it's an RPG so you actually have to level your skill with weapons before it gets great (I know, an RPG expecting your character's stats to matter, insane right?). I'm not even close to done with the game, but putting this partial review up early to counteract the "iTs nOt gTa" crowd. It's not GTA, and thank god for that.

Reincarnated as a Chip in Cyberpunk

It's alright if you have decent gear, although, not ready for release. Should have prolly gone on early access or something. I'll rate the game as 4 stars for my personal experience with it, since I had not personally encountered the various bugs seen around and the game worked smoothly. The plot was cute, but not world-shatteringly divine. Graphics were.. Superb. Probably the best I've encountered. The art around the city truly does justice to the genre, and generally, it shows that a lot of thought had been put into the art of the game. The sounds of the city were well done as well, and made the city feel almost alive. Alas, that was compromised by the lack of random NPC interactions, taking the life away from even the most populated areas. Expected a 5, but I guess that's life. Game development isn't easy. Hopefully, after a few bug fixes and perhaps a DLC or two, it would rise to it's full potential. When the time comes, I'll replay the game in year or so. TL;DR: It's a solid game, if you have the gear. I should have waited a few years to play it, but I'll just replay it when it's ready. P.S: It does seem replayable.

[PS4] Feelings after finishing the game

I took a few days off and managed to finish a game in that time (main plot + side quests), which took me ~45 Hrs. I was playing on PS5, so graphics & performance was decent (Full HD). Game crashed 'only' every 2-3 hours, but thanks to good autosave it was mostly a small nuisance. During my playthrough, I've encountered a dozen of not 'game-breaking' bugs and 2 that forced me to reload (e.g. textures didn't load at all). What I liked: - Story & Characters - Graphics (vistas, cars, lightning) - Side Quests - Sniper Rifles (some of them are OP) - Skills - I liked the options for ppl who are not so good with gamepad - Texting between quests - nicely done What I disliked - Amount of bugs & glitches - Driving cars (most of them) - City feels empty after a while - 'Filler' activities get boring quickly - Gangs don't matter outside from the main story - Button mapping is strange - Enemy AI is flat-out stupid Technical Rant I don't understand why CD Project RED insist on developing the REDengine - especially as I see similar bugs as in Witcher 3. Modernizing engine for 1-2 projects doesn't seem that plausible to me and using something like Unreal Engine 4 could save a lot of development time for 'only' 5% of profits. PS4 version is very bad on pretty much any PS4 - only runs great on PS5. Do not buy a console version unless you have the newest generation console. Final Thoughts The main story is definitely shorter than Witcher 3. Took me ~45 Hrs without rushing and doing some side-quests & 'cleaning' streets of thugs. I don't regret buying the game for 55£ (Amazon UK special edition) as the main story made it worth for me - really liked some of the characters. This could be a 'legendary gem', but something went awfully wrong in the project management and we ended up with an unpolished diamond. Game breaking bugs will be fixed, but some of the aspects are deeply ingrained into this project and will need massive (Witcher 3 DLC like) updates to address the issues. These problems are: the city feels empty, Enemy AI, not much to do outside of quests, no interaction with NPCs.

Solid gameplay and story, but buggy.

Right off the bat, I will say I have enjoyed the story so far, I personally think the voice acting is great and the overall writing is very solid. The gunplay feels nice and so does the driving. There are some issues though, it's mostly little things that add up. For example, cars feel like they will explode at any time, the mantis blades can get you killed because of the animation it plays if you one shot an enemy, I feel like you should be able to use blades in stealth for some cool takedowns, and optimization doesn't seem too great, though I usually have a good experience playing the game on medium and low settings (Which still looks amazing btw.) Acknowledging issues I have heard about the older gen consoles, I can say the experience is much better on pc if you have a decent setup. Overall I am having fun honestly and have played it a few hours everyday. The bugs that I have experienced seem like things that would easily be fixed overtime. Now whether they will fix these things I can only hope, because it would be pretty amazing without all the little hiccups.

Delivers on every reasonable expectation

at time of writing the game is loaded with bugs. i don't agree with failing a game that's still being worked on so i'm gonna give it the fair review it deserves worth 60 bucks? yes. even riddled with glitches and bugs it's still engrossing and breathtaking (reference not intended). it's like they took neo tokyo straight out of akira and placed it on the west coast of america and made everyone breed with robots. it's great, don't let the haters who overestimated the hype let you get it twisted. tons to do, with more to come in upcoming DLC packs. i'm looking forward to it - but i'm not expecting this game to cure cancer in children and find me a wife. it's a great game. strong competition for my game of 2020. like the greats, like oblivion and so on, you probably won't ever see everything this game has to offer. things you'll do and see will differ from what your friend might do and see. and that's okay. we all walk away from this with different stories to tell. and if people really tick me off, i got a grenade launcher built into my left arm and a gun that bounces projectiles around corners. i'll take my chances in night city.
