Bugy as hell!
I hoped that it was good and really looked if I could find something but in the end I was just disappointed
Good:
-Graphic
-Great World
Bad:
-Skillsystem
-Lootsystem
-no Transmog
-no 3rd Person perspective
-No RPG
-Story Ending (Im maybe the only one) When the main story starts to get exciting, it's already over
-only 3-4 good quests (with good story) most quest are boring things like steal this, hack this, kill this
-Great big world but nothing to do
-PC controls are horrible
-0 interactions,
-KI of npcs are crap (zB Random Spawning NPCs (or Despawn))
-and again VERY BUGY
I dont understand how people can still hype this game
Kinda like Division 2, but worse, since there your actions did have a semble of consequence, fleeting as it was. A game that had its story unceremoniously axed into oblivion, like Iorveth's was in TW3, and certainly for the same reason - time.
The good:
- The City is amazing. The devs definitely poured their heart and soul into it.
- The sound and music are top notch, really helping make the world alive and believable.
- The game loops are done great. Seeing how I bought an rpg game that has barely rp in it and didn't bail out after its conclusion, they must've done this right too.
- The immense variety of gear and vehicles that could add depth to one's experience.
- The foundation is solid for a long lasting adventure, gangs, fixers, places, corpo agents, etc.
The bad:
- The City doesn't react at all to your actions. Nor its inhabitants, hell! not even the people you're continuously in contact with. Which sucks. Balls.
- On the topic of sound, V's dialogues always come off weird, bouncing between smug and caring from one line to the next.
- Due to the AI being as dumb as a shoe, one has little reason to min-max gear or perks. The difficulty scale is off by a metric ton (Very Hard being, imo, Normal Mode, with the rest falling into "Story Mode" category).
- V's home ain't more than a house. No reason to go there, no point in acquiring cars that you don't see parked anywhere, a game element abandoned in the process.
- Nothing built - yet - on that solid foundation. No interaction with the gangs, virtually none with the fixers either, your side kicks are a fluff. Barely visible and definitely not present enough to mean much in a game that ain't supposed to end with the story's conclusion. And speaking of which...
The very ugly:
- The story. Axed, linear, regardless of one's choices. Could've been good, but isn't (and that's hard to fix with a patch).
- The false advertisement on all topics.
Tl;dr. A beautiful, empty shell of what could've been an amazing game.
Rules for Review of the game:
"Your review should focus on your in-game experience only. Let the game stand entirely on its own merits."
Great. Would have given 3 stars, had to take one away for lying about the state of the game. You didn't let the game stand on its own merit, so how can I?
It needed more time. It was released to soon. The story elements are well done but could be more polished. Example: the (verly well done) romance-sidequest simply ended, and then there was no option to meaningfully interact with my love interest (P.P.) until the final quest - disappointing.
The rest of the game is a sub-par looter shooter with useless RPG-bits bolted on.
I´m going to make it short and spicy.
So..... whats good and what´s bad?
Positive:
- Raytraced High End PC gaming, pure graphics porn this game.
- Crysis, metro like body feeling in first person with meaty heavy satisfying to kill weapons, and good parkour movement and immersive perception when playing
- nice driving, gore and combat pacing and flow in general, real badassery, good powerfantasdy but also good basic far cry stealth with deus ex hacking elements.
- the feeling, the atmopshere, the detail in the streets, the illusion of a bustling city (with crowd desnity on high) is there, as long as you don´t look too close, dissapearing cars, fake npc´s, shitty npc spawn system and other amateur mistakes.. oh wait this is suppossed to be in negatives......
- REPETITIVE, REPETITIVE missions. save this guy,do that, its like somebody just said, lets take sneaky hacky portions from deus ex and pack it into far cry with witcheresque rpg elements.
Negative:
- Graphics have dozen bugs and or bad downgraded code, from rtx reflection flickering on the side of my screen to sprite basded pixelated fog and smoke, to animations bugs.....
- Janky first person movement and animation work meets bugs and repetitive enemies with a limited number of melee finish animations, can create a jank feeling similar to fallout new vegas sometimes. But thankfully only sometimes.
- outdated design systems like too small itemtext, bad inventory system with unrebindable keybinds, console UI for a game that only looks good on pc..... fuck. as if they smoked crack at CDPR.
- Immersionbreaking mistakes like annoying ads in every room playing loudly over dialogue and ruining the atmopshere of a scene or they simply get annoying once you enter a room to loot and they are everywhere and theres no permanent way to disable them except shoot a few and MAN IM GOING MAD. good ads but.......
plenty of such bad design flaws. not a profesionally crafted game. more like a prototype for the sequel.
I've only played a few hours so far and honestly not really enjoying it. For one I'm not really liking the first person perspective, In my mind it feels like a 3rd person game. And holy crap is it slow (which may just be early in the game) but I just cant bring myself to enjoy it. I hadn't run into any real big bugs and the art and graphics are beautiful. Some people enjoy the driving, but to me it feels awful, to loose. The first hour in a game should really pull you in, like Uncharted 2, System Shock, Oblivion. I had purchased the newest Terminator game around the same time and, though a low budget straight forward affair, still had more fun with it. The only reason I MAY revisit it is because Keanu, which is unfortunate because how CDProjects Witcher 3 was amazing.
