The game is out, and it's everything i wanted. The story, characters and events all got me immersed and hooked on the game. I thoroughly enjoy every hour in the game. I highly reccomend it and hope it becomes the next AAA standard! :D
Going to prefix this review by saying I got lucky and managed to pick up a 3080, and playing on ultra was really amazing. Had a few crashes here and there and had to reload. Definitely could have done with another couple of months of QA. But even with all these problems, I had an amazing time playing it first playthrough took 35 hours. Planning a second playthrough now and really looking forward to it. Thanks for making such an amazing RPG, the last time I got this attached in a game to the characters was in mass effect.
I give 5 starts for the game as such, for what it is if it didn't had any issues, which I think will be fixed in the future, so that I don't have to change review later. But what I will going to write will remain as memento.
PCMR here, and I have no issues with encountered bugs or glitches that tend to happen over the course of gameplay, it's not game breaking whatsoever for me on the PC, but it is disappointing by the fact that the game has been in development for ~7 years, and it got delayed/postponed ~3-4 times, and still managed to be unpolished and unrefined. Makes me wonder what was the state of the game before when it got delayed 1-2nd & 3rd time. Would've been nice if it was delayed not until December 10th, but December 18-20th if not until the next year January, to have a much more refined game.
So the devs said that the game was in a ready state to play when it was supposed to come out the 2nd time, when it was delayed first time, but it took a half a year with one or two more delays to receive Gold, meaning it is in a playable state for sure, excluding bugs and glitches, and performance loss.
Fast forward to Dec 10, and with the bugs and glitches my issues are actually with performance loss, a.k.a. heavy frame drops over the time in game.
When 1.04 patch came out, it did reduced some frame drops, but it is still present within the game in various locations where when you go the first time, it's ok, but you come back to that place you go from 50-60fps first time down to ~22 fps mark in the same location. It eats RAM quite a lot, seeing up to 15GB of RAM usage, it doesn't use all CPU cores, and I got a CPU with 8 cores 16 threads, and going by task manager it shows rougly ~75% being used, some cores are on low activity, including threads. With how heavy this game is, I would expect to have all my hardware used just to get the best performance while maintaining this visual quality, meaning that reducing frame drops as much as possible.
TL;DR - I don't know what I was expecting (a lot), but its better than that.
I rarely play games for under several hundred hours, have some in the 10,000 hours ballpark. I game, I game a lot. I am a late 30s, white collar professional, married, D&D DM, world traveler, outdoor lover - What some might call a well adjusted human that pulls a decent salary because I can interact with the world in a healthy way on a consistent basis.
Ive played a solid 60+ hours in 4 days since launch and have been sucked into this world. I walk almost everywhere because youll miss stuff if you don't. I go to the most random, nowhere places and there arent just grey cube rooms. They have been put together into small vignettes, the items and placement in the room telling some bizarre little story that you can only imagine what the heck happened in here. And its just some 10x10 square in the corner of a place most people will probably never go. The whole game is like this and its massive.
Crafting is awesome, the world is awesome, exploring is awesome....
The internet is the two old reviewers from the muppets:
- This game is great!
- Well a car drove through a wall once
- Yeah I guess the could have tested more
- Hey, did that dialog line get stuck?
- BOOOO WORST GAME EVER BOOO
Console people - got the S* end of the stick, the graphics suck. This is for PC master race. Im rolling 2080ti graphics card, 4k curved 34" monitor, everything is on ultra or psycho graphics and I keept stopping and thinking about how beautiful the game is. I have friends with worse comps, but an nVidia card with DLSS will be the change you need if you think yours might be dated. DLSS is magic, accept it in your life.
Don't play it for the main mission. Ive only done a few and I know the game is short in that regard. Go do everything else. That is the game. And craft.
Running smooth on my old laptop with a 1070 and looking good doing so. Looks epic on my desktop.
Had about 2 or 3 crashes in 25 hours of play and only some minor bugs, most of which had already been fixed on day 2 after launch or with the new Nvidia driver.
Only one i noticed after that was some objects (random stuff on the ground, never mission stuff) that could not be picked up.
Either i'm really lucky or a lot of the horrible console stuff in bleading into PC reviews.
