Why buy on GOG.COM?
DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
I played control on a different platform before. The Ultimate Edition on GOG has problems with saves. If you die, the most recent save is deleted and sends you to the previous save. If you quit the game, the recent save is deleted and it sends you to a previous save.
I wanted to re-play the game to finish the DLCs, but I can't.
I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, or if I'm missing something, but the story, gameplay and overall setting feels really boring, I'm in an office going from point A to point B, just because I need to find something... I've passed the 3 hour mark and I just don't feel like "playing" more
I was blown away by how much I enjoyed this game. For me, it tickles that part of my brain the loves conspiracy theories, UFO stories, and government cover-ups. It reaches through history in a way that fascinates me. The gameplay is excellent, the map is absolutely huge, and story is fascinating. I read every single meme/note I found, listened to every audio recording, watched every single video, and felt like I really got to know "The Oldest House". It's not too long of a game, I played through it in about 30 hours with a lot of exploration and completed both the DLCs. I thoroughly enjoyed them both but the game was left open ended. I hope we get a sequel to follow-up regarding Jesse Faden and The Board to really tie off the open ends. I also wouldn't mind more of an explanation of Ahti as well. Though, partly there is a fear that if we get it, it won't live up to expectations. This is one of those rare Half-Life level stories that may never get another game. Part of me would miss it but part of me would be a bit glad of it since I don't know that a follow-up could live up to this game.
I waited till it came out on GOG, I am aware of the somewhat "scummy" moves by the publisher around this edition of the game and I was never a fan of them being an Epic exclusive like they were. This is not meant to be a review of a lousy publisher, it's meant to be a review of a really great game. Now that it is on better platforms, and if you are like me you really wanted to play it and have held off till now, this to me is a must buy.
The game's pretty good overall, it has some rough edges here and there which makes me give 4 stars
The action in the game is pretty intense, but it becomes a bit repetitive with mostly the same enemies over and over
The experience is quite surreal, the story, the setting, and some of the quirks of the game are a very unique experience
The graphics are superb, with a lot of attention to even some slightest details
Now for the rough edges, in addition to the kinda repetitive gameplay, the music is quite meh-ish save for a couple of parts. I also encountered some bugs during my gameplay, like Jesse turning invisible, textures getting blurry and constant crashes in the battle against the Anchor mini-boss
I'm consistently getting crashes during the Anchor fight. After some research online I see that hundreds of others have the same issue. That this has never been patched is an utter, utter disgrace. That there doesn't even seem to be a statement on the issue from the developer is an utter disgrace.
The story is ok, bit weird which can be fun but outside of a number of special objects on display not much has been done with it and I'm pretty far in the game. I've just spoken to a main character that joined us on the executive level that seems to hint at a twist that I will appreciate, won't spoil it. Although I don't know why I'm giving this game that respect when the developer obviously hasn't.
The abilities are cool, they work well but 80% of the upgrades is just "make ability stronger". Gunplay is solid.
The unsolved crash together with the fact they told customers to buy the ultimate edition on top of their regular version to be able to play at max graphics settings has me reviewing the refund policy right now.
