Why buy on GOG.COM?
DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
My different aspects to the game:
Graphics are very nice.
Great? Maybe.
Ray tracing reference? Nah. Played both with & without RTX. Yes looks nicer but is not a game-changer like in Metro.
Game-play? Very good up to about 2/3 of the game. Then the Hiss gets so annoying that you permanently die. Try to defeat a swarm of level 8 floating Hiss that regenerates health. I maxed out most of my abilities and still this is hours of fighting & dying
I switched to on-shot kill for the last third of the game and still died quite frequently.
Story and ending? OK if you do a lot of reading.
Replay value? Zero.
Bugs & stability? Just the one crash with fighting the anchor.
Recommend? Yes, but not at full price.
All around a great game, it has satisfying mechanics, a compelling story and interesting characters.
For me it loses a few points on how bad the mapping system is, leaving you running around trying to find which entry is the one that will take you to the actual objective, until you find out its actually the shady backdoor you were sure you already been in. I hate having to run around like this, sometimes losing 30 minutes to straight up nothing... It's frustrating and has led me to simply quit an otherwise great game multiple times.
The story is really insteresting and right down my alley, it doesn't take itself so seriously that it becomes cringy mess - like Allan Wake - but it also doesn't become so goofy that loses all self-respect - like Borderlands 3. It's well paced, interesting and overall a solid experience.
At first I thought that the fact you only had one pistol was a deteriment but actually it turned out that you can modify it to become sort of a small shotgun or rifle, the shooting is great and I love it.
100% buy it, it's a game everyone should have in their library
I loved the dark otherwordly atmosphere created by the game, if you loved Alan Wake there are quite a few allusions to Bright Falls that you can find. It feels very "The Secret World"-y
The powers are decent but I found myself primarily using Launch, in-fighting with Shield and Melee didn't feel viable at all.
Grip is the most versatile of all the guns, follwed by Shatter and Pierce for crowd work and bosses. The other guns don't feel as good.
Mods can be a grind and I didn't like that aspect at all, it also invalidates crafting. Why use up resources when you can just grind? Also, why craft mods when you need those same resources to upgrade the weapons.
Overall I liked and highly recommend the game, I'd give it a 5/5 but I experienced consistent CTD's during the last third of the game.
The plot of this game makes just enough sense to sort-of interpret what's going on while still feeling unnerved that anything could happen at any time. I get the impression they may have drawn some inspiration from Lovecraft. While you are controlling someone who is basically a demigod it still feels tense and I found myself fleeing from fights frequently.
Overall the game is fun, the graphics are good and the atmosphere is frightening without leaning on shock or gore.
+ : Great story, graphics, animations, controls, action, destructible environment, backstory. Everything blends together into a gripping story about main character Jesse and the Oldest House and it's strange objects of power. I love it!
- : Unbalanced difficulty, confusing map
