DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
This game is a Metroidvania, you have to understand that going in, and thus it can be rather irritating for the first 3 or so hours, before all the fundamental skill items are found. Really fun game, the dialogue writing, especially Jesse's can be a bit MCU at times, but the story and characters are carried by the immensely spooky vibes created by the visuals, and by the absurd amount of lore readings left around.
Also Darling is the biggest dilf in modern gaming.
...basically saying, you can't sue them for whatever they do with your data and they can sue you for whatever reason they see fit as violation of their new EULA.
The Version dated late 2020 is clean. The Version dated March 2025, labeld GOG 1.30 forces you to accept this snuck in EULA to play the game.
This violates GDPR. Someone ban Remedy Entertainment from GOG!
I was enjoying the game quite a lot. It has a very strong opening, interesting setting, decent combat, fun lore to dig around in. However, Remedy apparently decided to leave some major repeatable crashes in the game. They are well known enough that it isn't too hard to find fan work arounds (at least for the two I encountered).
I had the pleasure of hitting one ctd that lead directly to another. My first ctd love and the most common is caused by the "anchor" boss when it attacks some goons. In my case, when I tried to reload my save after that crash, it crashed again just after it finished loading. It did so everytime with an odd window popping up before hand citing some "device removed" error. To fix this, I had to perform a damn registry edit.
Maybe I've been lucky, but I have never before had to perform a redgisty edit to fix a bug or crash in a game. On top of that, the first ctd is pretty easy to fix. Seriously, after looking it up, the fix for the first ctd is pretty easy. Also, there seems to be more than one way to work around it or fix it. In my opinion that just makes the optics worse for the game and Remedy. If it is that easy to fix, and as common a problem as it appears to be then why not fix it?
Leaving it at two stars because I'm not mad, just disapointed. There is a fun game here, but buyer beware. Potentially good game, ruined by crashes and a lack of care/support.
Is really sad that to this day the game has a mayor bug that crashes the game every single time. I had this game in the Epic Stora and the Anchor bug was non existent. I hope it gets fixed some day but I find that unlikely
The game is from the crazy mind of Sam Lake, the team at Remedy delivered a crazy yet entertaining game with a way out there story / plot but it combines the world of Federal Bureau Of Control and Alan Wake, I had the most fun playing the AWE expansion actually, as it tied up some loose ends in the Alan Wake game.
The game play is rinse and repeat but is fun, responsive and quite fun once you get more of your powers. The visuals for this game are breath taking, having them maxed out they are quite remarkable for sure.
Make sure you read all of the documents you collect as it really dives VERY DEEP into the games story, and mystery, not doing this will leave you in some cases scratching your head.
From what I have seen, this is a franchise of sorts with Alan Wake being the starting point and Control to explore the Bureau behind the cover up in AW game and any and all other Paranatural happenings. I have not played Quantum Break, but I have a feeling it also ties into this story line one way or another I'm guessing the FBC.
So all in all it is a fun and stunning game visually, just keep in mind the story might be a little odd for some.
Remedy is one of my favorite dev studios because they always tell a rich and enggrossing story in all of their titles. Whats next I wonder, what ever it is, I will be picking it up as I have a feeling it will tie into this. If you have not got it, go pick it up, you will not regret it.
*BUG FIX Sidenote: There is one mission where you fight a boss with a bunch of clocks, where you are meant to toss the clocks into the creatures void / eye. However it crashes everytime you do this, the best work around is the options cheat where you enable one hit kills, then just shoot it in the eye to beat it, then disable that cheat after to get the most out of the game as no other fix I tried out there worked, other than that the game is pretty solid and bug free.
