A chill, cozy experience

It should be noted that I haven't finished the game yet, but I wanted to give it a go as my first game review. I'll start with my favourite aspect of this game. To me, the overall game give that "Midnight Diner" feeling, the Netflix show. You basically make on the spot what a character asks you to, and you listen to their very human worries and drop some occasional simple, yet effective wisdom while respecting boundaries. It's only open at night, like the show! This game can be seen as a mix between visual novel and "puzzle", the puzzles being you making your customer's order based on the clues they give you. It's all click, and drag for the latte art. The stories themselves are interesting, it's fun to see fantasy characters archetypes in a modern world. It obviously talks about some hard topics like racism sometimes. Which is interesting. You can take your time reading the dialogues, and making the orders. There's no rush, no stress. You can even make latte art even though the customer didn't ask for it, though the control for it can be tricky, I'm not sure I fully understand how it works. But you don't have to paint Mona Lisa in a coffee mug so that's alright. At any time you can look at your ingame-phone to get info from the characters you met, their personality and what they like, consult the recipes, and even change the music from your coffee shop. The artstyle is on point, with pixelart being inspired by 80's/90's anime, and a soothing choice of colors for the decor. I like that you every character has their own custom phone reflecting their personality. So is the music, adding to the comfy atmosphere. I'd really enjoy an artbook and/or a soundtrack for it! So basically, it's a game I think that's worth a shot. At the very least, there's a demo for it.

Not my cup of tea

I'll start out by saying that this game wasn't for me, but it had good qualities I could appreciate. Coffee talk is competently made game, which is clean looking and sounding, having good well made graphics. Game's main mechanics rely on you mixing three types of ingredients to create drinks for each serving and the game does few nice twists on simple game mechanics, but you might easily miss them if you just follow the orders you receive. Characters were well written and consistent to their world views, it's just a shame that I didn't like most of the cast, as their attitudes, problems and stories didn't really get their hooks on me. I could also sense some self projecting from the developers, especially when talking about game developing, racial politics, relationships and story writers. Going in blind, I thought would have had more input on the story, like a line or two to choose or path to take, but alas, only thing you do is listen and make beverages. So if anyone is looking for a interactive story, this is not for you. Also, since the game talks big about racial profiling and other things like that, I find lack of dwarves somewhat disappointing, they are mentioned and I think there might be one in the opening, but no dwarf characters are represented. Coffee talk takes few hours to finish and I did so in one sitting. Don't regret playing, but won't be playing again. But if you want to listen to first world problems and complaints masked as fantastical races, while relaxing at a café or if you like modern brightly coloured hairs, I think you should give it a try. Or at least try out the demo.

简短测评 | Comment

值得购买 长处: 画风不错(像素风爱好者值得入手); 沉浸式的放松的阅读体验; 优美舒缓的背景音乐 吸引人心的故事。 不足(个人观点): 现阶段还没有提供原声带和Artbook; 不支持一键保持进度; 没有多个保存节点(可能吧,我个人觉得这个功能应该加进来) 画廊的画不能保存到本地(我想要把它们做成我电脑的壁纸) Translation(Powered by Google Translation) worth buying Strengths: Good painting style (pixel style enthusiasts are worth starting); Immersive and relaxing reading experience; Beautiful and soothing background music Engaging stories. Inadequacy (personal point of view): Soundtrack and Artbook are not available at this stage; Does not support one-click to keep progress; No multiple save nodes (maybe, I personally think this feature should be added) Gallery pictures cannot be saved locally (I want to make them my computer wallpaper)

Cozy Talk

A visual novel themed around being a barista. Mix drinks and change li-- I mean, brew coffee for your colourful cast of characters as you get to know more about them. The characters you can interact with are diverse and intriguing, each with an interesting story to tell. The game is set in Seattle but also has a fantasy theme, with this influencing the background events that take place before and during the story, and the races of the game's characters. More could have been done with this aspect, but there is still an interesting enough exploration of it. The game, like the titular coffee shop, has a cozy atmosphere, with character interactions being generally laid back and humourous in nature, though more serious topics and character arcs are present. The game has an array of laid back tracks to perfectly fit the mood of the coffee shop, that you can handily choose to play as you desire, and the characters have nice designs, helped a lot by the beautiful retro themed art style of the game. These also help contribute to the relaxing and pleasant nature of the game. Gameplay is simple, only requires you to to mix 3 ingredients to make the drink your customer desires, with there being no time pressure or significant penalty for getting orders wrong either (although this can influence dialouge), so you can easily just sit back and enjoy your coffee talk. It's a well made visual novel overall, highly recommended for anyone into the genre, or who just wants to relax over a nice cup of coffee.

Not as good as VA-11 Hall-A but still ok

Short ~3h story. Characters are not as interesting and deep as VA-11 Hall-A characters but still you could have some fun from this game. However I will not remember it as good. I finished it and not going back to it soon.
