Description
Chained Echoes is a story-driven JRPG where a group of heroes travel around the vast continent of Valandis to bring an end to the war between its three kingdoms.
In the course of their journey, they will travel through a wide array of diverse landscapes spanning from wind-tanned plateaus and exotic archipelagos to sunken cities and forgotten dungeons.

While Chained Echoes has the advantage of decades of distance from the games it looks to for inspiration, it’s a better experience in many instances than those vaunted games from which it arose. I prefer this combat, storytelling, and approach to progression and exploration to many of the JRPGs I grew up so enamored with playing. That’s the highest praise I can heap on a game so removed in time from the games to which it might be compared. Whether you currently count yourself a JRPG connoisseur or fondly recall the ʼ90s heyday of the genre, Chained Echoes is well worth your time.

Middling
Nice artwork and music, but the opening gameplay is not particularly engaging or interesting. When early reviewers said it was the Second Coming of Chrono Trigger, I took that seriously based on the promo material. But if you're after that type of polished experience, I'd recommend Zeboyd's Cosmic Star Heroine or Cthulhu Saves Christmas instead.

I don't think this game is that special
I don't understand how this game for the great receptions it has gotten. I really don't. The story is pretty milktoast, not logically consistent and quite boring. The game-mechanics are average and the quests, apart from the main quest are pretty simple. The characters are average and very similar to characters you'd find in any other game of the genre. The pixel grapics are nice though.
