Game is really fun to play, perfect length for its content too.
Only flaws imho: Lack of a map / a better hub area and some later enemy encounters too one-dimensional.
Really recommend this game.
The tagline for this game is that it's a "reverse horror game" where you play the monster, but aside from killing some unarmed civillians, it doesn't really do much with the horror aspect. It's mostly just a kind of short, linear metroidvania game.
To be clear, it's not BAD, the atmosphere create with the sound and graphics is good, but the gameplay is problematic. Your abilities are tied to your size, which is tied to your health. This means that to solve certain puzzles you need to be a certain size, which means a lot of backtracking to the points in the map where you can grow or shrink. Controls are imprecise (especially late in the game when you get fairly large) so combat tends to be extremely simple and clumsy. There's not really much of a story or characters or anything like that, to carry the "horror" side of it, either.
Again, it's not the worst, and for the four or five hours it lasts it's decent enough, but maybe wait for a sale if you're not sure.
I didn't really like the controls. The tentacles make it look like they're pulling you along but it felt like the blob was just sliding around a little too effortlessly.
It was really easy to get disoriented. I know it wouldn't really make sense for the tentacled mass to have a map but I got frustrated when I got lost and didn't feel like sliding my mass back (again and again... did I check that way?) through rooms of stuff I already broke and/or killed.
I unlocked an ability to shoot a web, and then later got an ability to "dash" which... overwrote the web ability? I couldn't find a way to switch back and gave up.
I played it through a game streaming service through 3 or 4 levels? I don't find my self interested at $20.
I do think it's a neat project from Phobia and I do like seeing neat indie concepts with a Devolver's "D" on it.
I enjoyed the game immensely and it is well designed, there are no softlocks or stuff like that, but it is simply far too short. Getting 100% in the game only takes two and a half hours, and that's if you're slow and methodical about it. Putting up $20 for this game, almost $10 per hour, is ridiculous. I won't refund the game as I do think the developers have real talent and I want to support them, but it's simply not worth the price they're asking for.
