Still love to play it

This was the game that got me into city building. Like other reviewers, I'm not into combat, so I loved the fact that I could play a whole series of levels without having to deal with the military. This one was an enormous time sink for me until Caesar IV came out; and that one is still a time sink. :) The Caesar series is exactly what a city building game should be.

Good old strategy

One of the best city building games, and since everyone´s crazy about making shooters nowadays, my guess is that CEASAR 3 will remain at the top of the genre in the future as well. If you like city-building, low intencity warfare and apeasing your superiors with lavish gifts, this game is a blast.

Exceptionally Awesome

Easily the most entertaining and prolific game I have ever played. It's been 16 years since its debut and I still find myself playing it here and there just for the thrill. Exponentially worth more than a 5 star rating. If you haven't played it yet, drop everything and buy it. You won't be disappointed...or I'll buy you a round of beers.

A good old game

I wanted to start playing city-builders games. I didn't know where to start, and i was told this was a great game. Well it is ! The strategic dimension and micro managment is really high, but not too harsh. A real pleasure to watch your city grow and your building evolving. There is always something to do. Watch for the gods, make sure they are happy, you can rise or low the taxes, you have to set your water installation correctly, you need to make sure the food is well distributed, you can trade, import, export, produce soldier to defend yourself. The sound design is cool, the graphics old but nice. If you're into that kind of game, and you don't mind the "old" looking, go for it.

Quite poor

I played the "Caesar" games as soon as they came out. The first game rated poorly against Sim City, and the following two titles were inferior to Sim City 2000. Once you get the basic mechanics (mostly to manage production and avoid fire) the rest is just a game of placing something somewhere and waiting. Strategic choices are limited and rarely decisive in the gameplay. Pretty decent graphics are still one of its few good points.
