Plenty of fun and also plenty of headache. As manual says, easy to play, hard to master. Bring a calming drink for yourself if you get into building roman city. You'll most probably need it (for those not calm enough, cold shower will help). Good game play will mix with most simple things driving you nuts (Hey, 20% unemployment. Get up your lazy bottom, there's empty farm over there. Oh my, why you always turn left here, I need you to turn goddamn right. Ceres, damn Ceres, you have four temples here, other gods have two, why are YOU upset? *ding* The house between two prefectures caught fire somehow.). So, things are going bad. Time to read the manual. Take your time. Fix problems when they arise. And be prepared for some really (I mean __REALLY__) bad kerning there. So you take a break, maybe sleep on it, but soon you'll return to your people, with new brilliant idea coming in mind, and you know it'll work perfectly this time. Well, it won't. But you'll return again. Linux users - works for me <tm> in ubuntu 16.04+wine-1.6.2.

My favourite game when I was a kid, could not put it down. Seen mixed reviews but gave it a try. The maps aren't as large as I remembered them to be but the gameplay is still great. starting can be frustrating when you think you've nailed a great village and then half your people leave because they are unhappy. But as you build a larger town the problems get easier to deal with. I used to build massive towns until my PC processor couldn't cope, but now on a modern PC that problem has gone. Thanks for keeping this game going. (Windows 10/Core i5/Geforce GTX1060).

As a kid I tried playing this game, but failed to understand what I needed to do to make cities work, as I wasnt that good at reading information and strategizing. Now, being older, I wanted to try again and see if I can fair better. Although I did fair better and managed to understand how much of the things work, it isnt a fun experience. There are some issues I have with this game. First off, is that you need to often follow specific buidling strategies to be effective. Either because you need to make sure maintenance is carried out properly or houses develop properly. Its important, because if you dont then your city collapses or you dont have a proper tax base. So possibilities for variation are limited and often come out inorganic or even somewhat illogical from a normal city perspective. If you are new to this game, trial and error will be a running theme and there will be a certain lerning curve. Next off, you will require to do some micromanagent in certain situations, but interface and controls are so outdated it becomes quite a chore. This also applies to gathering information. Also, some information you dont get, like how far people can live away from their work place. There are those that are quite fine with the design of the game and others get mods to solve technical or other issues. I can definitely see why people like it a lot. Even I wanted to like this "classic". But while trying to play the missions and learning how it all works I kept catching myself on the thought that Im not enjoying myself. I caution younger or newer audiences to this genre. Despite having a lot of charm, the game also has its significant flaws.

Incredible game. This, for me, is the best city builder of all time. Better than Sim City. This is not a chill game where you make nice little cities. No. It's horrendously complex and obtuse. This is a citybuilder where you will be actively punished for suboptimal city layouts. Where Caesar will make demands of you. Where your citizens will need 5 different things, 2 things will always be going wrong, and you will be in debt. Where your cities will be spiraling into doom cycles and you won't really understand why until you grasp the massive breadth of mechanics. Incredibly addictive. Every map is different. Every map has new challenges, new constraints. Just unmatched.

Love this game to the max, allot more fun then I remembered it! I just bought it on GOG and started playing the game at 8PM and didn't stop till 6AM lolz! Thats a good game for you! Not even all the total war games could do that to me! The game is original to the core, and has much solid game play, fast pace and fun as all hell! lolz! Love the commentary in the game, campaign missions are fun, its like putting a kick butt puzzle together! I enjoy making the cities more then army fighting, army fighting is kinda basic but still fun! FOR SURE ADD THIS ONE TO THE COLLECTION! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT! ORIGINAL TO THE CORE!
