Repetitive gameplay with linear levels
Do you like to take command of a squad and surpress and flank the enemy? Well that's all you'll be doing in this game. I can appreciate how they implemented real military tactics into this game, but it's not enough to carry a game, much less 3 games. If a WW2 tactical shooter is what you're after, you can skip these games and get Hidden and Dangerous 2.

A unique WW2 shooter...
This is a very unique WW2 shooter that I would recommend to anyone who liked Full Spectrum Warrior (which, coincidentally, has been blamed for teaching obsolete tactics...but that is OT and an argument for another day)...and holy s**t is it hard. I admit: I had to cheat at least once to get past a section where I kept getting my *ss handed to me by a mortar squad, and I played on Easy difficulty. I do not agree that if you do not issue an order to your squadmates, they will just sit there and get themselves killed: but I will concede that machine guns can sometimes insta-kill you at certain ranges. Another flaw is that your squad's pathfinding can sometimes be erratic and that the enemy is able to shoot through some objects you would have otherwise considered pretty solid. Probably the worst flaw this game has, however, is that it has no quicksaves, the game is saved at checkpoints instead, and this can be a little frustrating at times. The biggest pro of the game is that the story feels very authentic, and this is what sets it apart from all the other WW2 shooters. The tactics revolve around what the game calls the The Four Fs: find'em, fix'em, flank'em, finish'em! Once you master the concept, playing becomes so satisfying, and again, it strongly reminds me of Full Spectrum Warrior. The missions themselves are generally pretty straightforward and a tad repetitive, but this is to be expected, as the game is geared towards realism.

Not very good
First person shooters really aren't too hard to do right, the bare minimum I'd expect is that my bullets go where I'm aiming. Interestingly, this game boldy decides to innovate and stand out from the rest by having your bullets not go where you're aiming. You can be using ironsights, aim right at an enemy's head with a kar rifle, shoot and the enemy will be fine. I think this might have something to do with the supression system, like if an enemy isn't suppressed they get a magcial bulletproof shield. I really don't know, I don't know why the enemies don't die when I clearly shot them in the head, all I know is that as a realistic tactical shooter this game is pretty poor. Ironsight aiming also wildly wobbles around, I get that for an 8x sniper scope, but why can my character not simply hold their rifle still when ironsight aiming? Don't they have military training? Could he not balance the edge of his rifle on cover or something? IDK but your aim will wildly shake around and it makes aiming really not fun. I think this game may have been trying to seem hardcore but in doing that they kinda just added annoying elements like incredibly inaccurate weapons and a super shaky aim, rather than adding natural difficulty with smarter enemy AI requiring better tactics. There may be some fun to have here if you have patience to put up with the bullshit in this game, but I'd rather go play Medal of Honour or the first Call of Duty.

A passable corridor shooter
I played Hell's Highway when it came out so I decided to try this one. It's actually okay at the squad commanding -- they managed to successfully idiot proof the NPC followers you have. The problem is the level design does not foster the mechanics created for the game. All the levels are very linear and there is pretty much zero flexibility on where to go which stymies any interesting tactics. All the enemies are also scripted and never do anything interesting like try and flank you back. The guns that seem to draw complaints are not so much inaccurate as the enemies actually invincible unless certain criteria are met (distance, angle, cover)... you can tell this because you have no issue dropping people as long as they are not behind cover but if they are too far they are just invincible unless you are using the sniper rifle (then magically none of this applies except to the sandbagged MGs). I don't really find this to be too annoying given the emphasis on flanking, but I can see how this could take people out of it. Last, the story is mediocre save for the fact they took historical documents to piece together the level. There is one extra that literally shows the path you have to trace to complete a level which I found pretty neat. These unlocks are honestly the most interesting portion of the game, but some of them are locked behind the highest difficulty level and like hell am I playing this on anything higher than normal. As for the actual dialog, there needed to be more conversation. There might be monologues at the start of every mission, but there is nothing DURING the mission ever. Sum up all the flaws and it's still passable overall I'd say. I had an itch for a WW2 shooter and it scratched it well enough. MoH:AA did not.
