Aged like honey, not wine.

Game itself has solid foundations. Leading your troops is done pretty well. Shame their AI is so stupid, they sometimes run out in the open field and get shot. Checkpoints are OK, but there"s neither quick save nor manual save. Combat system is suprisingly good, you can feel the weight of your gun, enemies sometimes bleed. In my opinion theres not enough weapons. Germans have Kar98, Mp40 and Stg, and Panzerfaust. Americans have Thompson, Bar, Garand, Carbine and bazooka. Because of the lack of weapons, the game gets pretty boring after the first half. The plot is mediocre- Characters are charismatic, but there is almost zero cutscenes. Graphic itself is also mid, grass looks amazing, but enemies are awful, also guns are ugly, our hero has inapropiately big hands, which makes guns look like toys. Overall, Road to hill 30 is a decent enough game.

Great game

Change of resoultion does work and game work on modern PC... like Call of duty but slighty harder, and kind of medal of honor but better.. because you have a squad to order around to survive

A game of one trick

BiA means to be tactical shooter but it's tactics consists of one trick: tie enemies with fire and outflank them over and over, and over. What's more, levels are very linear without much wiggle room to approach a mission your way. Well, maybe sometimes you can also command some tank to tie enemies with fire or provide moving cover for your squad. Unfortunately there's a big problem with hit detection. German soldiers behind cover are virtually immortal as long as you try to shoot them from the front unless you're using a sniper rifle and even then sometimes don't react to headshots (especially visible when they're storming a church and you're sniping them from bell tower, when their cover doesn't hide them from you but often they are protected by an invisible wall from your shots). And even flanked, they can be difficult to kill (OK, MP-40 mightn't be the most accurate weapon on the planet and this isn't Call of Duty to run 'n gun, but aiming through sights, crouched and not moving you can sometimes have a problem to kill 2 flanked soldiers with entire magazine from 10 m distance. Give me a break!) Where the game shines it's its historical accuracy. If you can be bothered to unlock bonus documents and actually read them, you'll discover how many things in the game come straight from authentic battle reports. In these reports and hand drawn maps you can recognize map on which you've fought. The scene on the start of the game, where you start firefight outside a house, just so enemies inside suddenly break from the dining table seeing you that looks so staged? Report says some German soldiers really just ignored shooting outside and were totally surprised before they died from well aimed Thompson series. Really, where are the times when game devs hired actual vets or historians to make their FPS games, if not realistic, then at least historically accurate? To sum it up, it's still worth to play as long as you can overlook some of BiA clunkiness.

Pretty good but shows its age

The aiming is really annoying and your squad mates sometimes do really stupid things

MoH looks like a toy compared to BiA

Game is pretty immersive and a lot more realistic. At the beginning I was expecting some simple crappy low budget FPS... well - that was a big suprise.
