Finally a faithful renewal of the OG
The Reforged version of Broken Sword is finally a careful, loving, and faithful renewal of the original game, preserving its charm and character. To those who miss the additional content from the Director's Cut, I can only say: thank goodness (it's not included). The added intro in the Director's Cut completely ruined the iconic opening of the game. It was anti-climactic and featured stiff Flash-animated cutscenes. The static portraits during conversations were also unpopular, as they didn’t blend well with the original design and felt out of place. I recommend this YouTube comparison video for a direct look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u24Kt1X4xaQ Overall, it’s a real pleasure to finally be able to enjoy the original gaming experience in a modern format, with vibrant colors and smooth animations free of pixelated artifacts. Lighting has been added to the scenes, making them look more realistic (some areas are slightly brighter, others darker), and characters now cast dynamic shadows. As some aspects of the game design may have become a little outdated over time, such as the trial-and-error puzzles, there is now an optional(!) hint system with varying levels of guidance, which is particularly helpful for newcomers. Now I can finally let my nephews experience this wonderful adventure series for themselves, too!

George is back in town
Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars - Reforged is a beautifully crafted revival of a classic point-and-click adventure that captures the essence of what made the original a beloved title. The game retains its rich storytelling and engaging characters, immersing players in a thrilling narrative that weaves history, mystery, and a touch of humor. The updated visuals breathe new life into the iconic art style, enhancing the experience without losing the charm that fans remember. The puzzles, while occasionally challenging, remain intuitive and rewarding, offering that satisfying “aha!” moment that keeps you hooked. However, some of the voice acting feels a bit uneven, which can pull you out of the immersive atmosphere at times. Still, the game’s strengths far outweigh its flaws. Whether you’re a returning fan or a newcomer to the series, Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars - Reforged is a delightful journey worth embarking on. It beautifully balances nostalgia with modern enhancements, making it a must-play for adventure game enthusiasts.

Just what I wanted
I recently tried replaying the original game and the Director's Cut version and it was clear to me this needed a remaster. From the couple hours I've played this is all I wanted, feels like the original but looks much better. The controls have been better adapted if you want to sit back, relax, and play with a controller. On a side note, I think GOG has to do something with their review system, the first few reviews are always from weirdos who don't own the game and whine about absurd stuff. This reforged version is well worth the price and no, it probably doesn't run in Windows 3.1, get with the times.

Paris in the Fall
If you like point & click, witty humor and a fine mystery you should already be familiar with broken sword. And now you can enjoy it how it probably was envisioned back in the day, in all it's brilliance and bright, stunning art direction. The game looks like I always remembered it in my mind's eye and it's worth every penny. Thank you, Revolution, for staying true to your vision and your community and fans.
