BEAUTIFUL DESOLATION Demo is available here

THE BROTHERHOOD has crafted a homage to adventure games from your childhood. BEAUTIFUL DESOLATION is a 2D isometric adventure set in the distant future. Explore a post-apocalyptic landscape, solve puzzles, meet new friends and make powerful enemies, mediate conflicts and fight for your life as you unravel the secrets of the world around you.

Mark, a man out of time, searches for his lost brother Don, in a far-flung futuristic era ruled by highly advanced technologies which are both revered and reviled. Your surroundings hold echoes of a desolate past, and glimpses of a dark future that has yet to be written by your actions. Be prepared to face many tough choices that will shape this land long after you complete your journey.

The inhabitants of this world will help and hinder you, as you make new discoveries and navigate the spectacular African-inspired landscape. Negotiate your passage with local leaders, healers and warriors, or find yourself embroiled in a battle against nanite swarms, enormous scorpions and rocket-equipped robots.

From thriving villages to crumbling cities, petrified forests and bone-dry ocean beds, this strange new world holds a multitude of terrains to uncover, beautifully rendered in 2D isometric art.

BEAUTIFUL DESOLATION features music by MICK GORDON, known for his work on Wolfenstein®, DOOM®, Prey®, Killer Instinct® and Need for Speed®.

Refreshing RPG / point and click mix

Varied, detailed and unique world. Could play through this again since there are so many different ways to progress. Probably wont though. Had a great time in post apocalyptic south africa. That’s enough for now.

An Aptly Named Title

A title that describes the game quite well. The vistas are gorgeous to look at, as are all the talking heads. The voice acting is satisfactory by a small team, while the music was composed by Mick Gordon. The gameplay? Well... this is where it almost falls flat. It's an isometric point & click adventure game with 6 different environments. It's your standard collect items that end up in an inventory, in which you wander around the beautiful environments, find stuff hidden in different locations, and combine items in order to progress. Then there are the puzzle elements. Most of them make sense, but there's one 'puzzle' at the end that barely makes sense, even after reading a walk-through. It's almost if the developers expected the player to be a nuclear expert. I'm not one of those, so I looked up the solution. No shame here. Now, for the part where it almost falls flat. The quests you get are given to you once. That's it. You talk with an NPC, and you can't talk with them again. There is a 'solution' given to you, in which you can listen to those conversations again, but it would just have been easier to allow me to converse with a character if I got lost. Most of the time, I'd listen, but not really understand what was needed from me, so I'd just go from area to area looking for something that changed. And that's the part of this game where it falls apart. You need to pay attention to everything the first time. After exploring the areas over and over again, you will have an idea as to where the main hubs are with NPCs, but even with the pretty visuals, it starts to get old. But, if you are one that can follow along without any problems and remember things provided, you'll probably manage to follow the story a bit better than I could. With that said, it's a pretty good futuristic apocalypse time travel story. It feels like an old PC game. I give this a Golf Score of: Par

beautiful, intriguing point and click

The artwork in this game is gorgeous, each environment is very well crafted and detailed. Its a pleasure to investigate. the story is very in depth it boggles the mind that someone made it all up. I enjoyed the flight mechanic, taking time to just soar around and see all the details. the sound track is immersive and unintrusive. You have side kicks who flesh out their back stories occasionally when you access areas, little pop ups where you can choose responses. In fact the whole story is based around your responses and choices with alternate endings. You can save anywhere and at anytime using either the main menu or quick saves. Its all point and click with lots of flavor text on items that appear when your character is near. there are items to find to sell in order to purchase ship upgrades. There are some downsides, mainly regarding travel, as i said before i enjoyed the mechanic of using a ship to travel to other maps, that said it can get old as you have to back track ALOT, mainly due to not knowing what is going on. Devs could have used a quick travel to skip animations to cut down player irritations. They also could have implemented a better journal with more hints as to what to do next. Maps are opened up slowly and every one updates thru the story, so you have to go back over and over in order to see what hot spots are now usable which is annoying. I found myself lost alot, with alot of simply flying to maps to see if a new hot spot was open. that detracted from game pacing. Overall I did enjoy the game a ton, the artstyle, story and my companions. I look forward to any other game they put out

Beautiful Desolation

At the price of $15 this is great fun. Rich interesting story. Gameplay not perfect but still well worth the price. Interesting story. Played through once and happy to do it again sometime

fantastic story but a couple issues

Honestly one of the best stories of a game i have played but there is a couple issues mainly that in some causes if you dont do everything in order it tends to break the game, making it impossible to talk to characters and making you restart to the last save which is frustating also you will probaly need a guide for this as the game doesnt really give any hint on what to do. the story is also a bit let down by the ending which i wont spoil. Overall story, character design and world building is great but let down by some issues.
