Halfbaked but with a descent storyline

All in all the game was a positive experience but a woefully unfinished one. Im going to start this review with two fuck yous as I usually do to get the negative stuff out of the way. 1st: Fuck you Beamdog for releasing a game thats only half finished, hardly playtested crashes like wreckingball with homesickness, has a shitload of unfinnished scripting and a locked away graphics menu. This is a 15 year old graphics engine we're talkning about, it's not rockedscience, and I dont pay you full price for an expansion to be your bloody betatesters, 2nd: To all you whining fucking asshat who cry out in outrage over the "social issues" It's ONE FUCKING NPC with all in all 9 lines of dialouge in the entire fucking game! If you cant handle that there are litterally four sentencenes in one game that doesnt meet your approval and therefore the whole game is shit hijacked by social justice warriors you are dumber than rocks. It's not that the game panders to social justice warriors, it's you whiny bichtes who cant handle that 0.00001% of a games doesnt pander to YOUR view of what a game should be. Jesus tittyfucking christ you are an embarassment to mankind! And there by the way there are litterally a shitload of jokes that breaks the fourth wall in both BG games, read the tombstones dickheads! That said, the story was fittingly epic and it's great to finally have an interlude to the whole waking up in a dungeon with NPC's you didnt neccessarily travel with in BG 1. Using Skie Silvershield to facilitate this was on the other hand... quiet possibly the worst idea ever. Imoen wasnt a part of the game and it's a character everyone whos ever played BG has got a relation to and is therefore a lot better. Plus it would have been a way more plausible excuse to keep her out of the game. Why the fuck would you do that by the way? It makes litterally no dramaturgic sense at all.

Storm in a teacup

I can't help feeling a lot of these one-star reviews are shall we say 'political' in nature. Picked this up a couple of years ago reluctantly after all the bad reviews and am glad I did so. The bugs past reviewers have mentioned never materialized for me (maybe its been patched a lot since it came out). Also with all the cries of SJ and 'progressiveness' I was really expecting to be be beaten over the head with a lot of social issues. Instead, I believe I remember one line maybe two where someone tells you there trans. That's it. Really. To the best of my knowledge it never comes up again (again maybe this has been 'fixed' with later updates) . I think you might be able to dig deeper if you want to. The game itself is very enjoyable, the writing plugged me right back in with all the characters I loved from over a decade ago. The story is nicely paced and in my eyes sets up nicely for BG2. When I play through the series again I'll be sure to include it with Sword Coast and Throne of Bhal as an essential add-on. A number of people have complained about the graphics, but again I feel it was the right amount of update/keeping the same feel of the original games. In a nutshell, if you love BG don't let a vocal minorities hurt feelings stop you from enjoying another great adventure.

Loved It

BG Series are my favourite games, I replay them every year at least twice a year. They were the first games I ever played so nothing can probably ever compare to them. This game fits in with the originals perfectly. It made me so happy to finally have some original content for the game after all these years. And they got the original voice actors back, minus Jaheira who sucks anyway, I nearly cried when I heard Minsc! This game is the TOB equivalent to BG1 and should be treated as such. Everyone is complaining about it like it should have been a full blown game. It was never intended to be its an expansion and a very good one at that. I paid full price the day it came out and I would again too to repeat play it if I had to. Never experienced any issues, crashes or bugs. Everyone is complaining about one line Minsc says...which was removed from the game, and also some trans character. People seriously have too much time on their hands. It was so insignificant I didn't even notice till I saw everyone complaining, so I had to go look up what they were complaining about. Well..when I saw what it was everyone was getting their knickers in a twist about I was gobsmacked. These people need to find more things to fill their time and more important things to be offended by. I saw a few people complain about it being visually dated? Really...? You want them to make this game look modern with up to date graphics? Then you will complain it doesn’t fit in with the older games.

Excellent addition to the BG universe

This game, you'll notice, has a ridiculously low scoring, because some angry people made up fake reasons to give it a low rating. The "controversy" that has them up in arms, is a minor NPC who is transgender. That's it. It's not "pushed down your throat": it literally only comes up if you ask her about her name. Back to the game itself. The game runs smoothly - no bugs/crashes/problems that the 1-star reviewers experienced. I thought it looked great, same as the original, but more polished. Lots of small improvements (locations of important NPS indicated on map, movement of group better (i.e. if your thief unlocks something, you don't have to move them out of the way to get to the chest, etc.), party members now capable of having a romantic relationship with the main character, more chatting between party members while walking. All small things, but it adds up. Advice: save often. The game doesn't hold your hand much and you might find that areas you still wanted to visit are suddenly inaccessible after certain milestones have been reached. Large selection of possible party members, for those interested in replayability. Music and sound acting are both great. I was pleased to see the original BG portraits used, rather than the abominations that are the BG2 portraits. Imoen's is slightly updated, but she's obviously still BG1 Imoen.
