Pretty appealing game, also quite enganging story and quite different from the soul like games most studios have made, it's fresh. I was even close to give it 5/5 stars
It's worth to buy it.
I often find souls-likes to be far too frustrating, time consuming, and lacking a story or characters that hold my interest.
Asterigos has refreshing Greek mythology inspired world with good characters and a suprisingly deep story with lots of lore.
Big pros are the art design and world building. Seriously, there is a LOT of world building if you watch all the echoes/memories and read all the documents. It's so great to find a Soulslike that doesn't lean heavily into Grim-dark, and often found myself admiring the world and character designs. The music is sweeping orchestral with some memorable themes for different areas. The voice acting is really good too and adds to the believability of the world. It made me care about Hilda and Aphes so that I wanted to keep exploring.
The combat was easy to pick up and has a good level of complexity with upgrades, skills and perks. Overall though, I find the combat fun and satisfying, rather than unfair and punishing.
The big drawback is NO MAP. You have to navigate a sprawling world but for the entire first part without fast travel you will do this BY MEMORY. I handled it because I remember a time without Maps on phones.
If you find most 3D souls-likes prioritising punishment over fun, and are getting tired of Grim-dark, Asterigos worked as an antidote for me. I sincerely hope for a sequel with an even bigger budget.
The game itself is very good. Main dialogues are all voiced and it also have lot's of the optional unvoiced lines. RP aspects of the RPG is implemented very good and combat is very enjoyable.
The art style itself is very pretty too - I would say it's on the AAA level.
Now about the bad - optimization. There's a constant shatter, I'm playing on 4k and getting 90-144fps on both lowest and highest preset with 1% low at about the same level - but no matter what I do, the 1% lows are falling to 10fps every now and then and I can see the game stop at those times. I tried everything - switching to dx11, vkdx11 (the shtatter is gone, but vulkans sutter is evcen worse), etc. From looking it up, it seems lots of people were having the same issue on release...
Overall I got tired of feeling nausaeted while playing and decided to abandone it at 18hr mark (about 60% of the game)
my scores:
1/5 - this "game" shouldn't exist
2/5 - I guess someone might like it, but I regret buying it.
3/5 - I had some fun with it and do not regret buying it.
4/5 - I had completed this game and/or had overall good time with it.
5/5 - It's a great game, one of the bestest of all time!
