Loveable characters designed by Doug TenNapel creator of the Earthworm Jim and developed by creators of The Neverhood, Ed Schofield and Mike Dietz.
Rich cast of voiceover talent brings Armikrog’s characters to life, including well-known actors Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite), Rob Paulsen (Pinky and the Brain) and Michael J. Nelson (Mystery Science Theater 3000).
I played a OS X version. It was not buggy at all and I had a blast. Of course, it would be impossible to match The Neverhood because there is always Original and Sequel. However, I loved this Sequel, it was a huge pleasure to play almost after 20 years after release of Original. But it is very alike. The story is nice, the game is well balanced and maybe a bit simpler than Neverhood. But again, don't compare. Great overall and would fund next kickstarter project of these folks!
But you can watch it on youtube if you like.
Yeah the music is kickass, and the only selling point if you ask me. The visuals are awesome at times, and really crappy on others. The cutscenes start strong but kinda get really B-Movie over time, in a bad way!.
Not to speeking the biggest part of the story is explained in simple drawings with nonsense language over it. Which I find funny, in the very end of the game you get to listen to them in plain english, but way trough? You just understood everything fine and it only gets rid of the wonder and awe you feel when exploring something so very foreign to you.
And the gameplay is pretty bad, now I say point and clicks don't really have good gameplay in that sense, so the gameplay itself seems to be one of the better ones for this genre. But normaly you get allot of story trough the gameplay or at least character development. In Armikrog, you get nothing! So I can't even measure the gameplay in the realms of point in click games, I have to measure it as a pure puzzle game, in which case, the puzzles are horrible!.
The story is also very very dumb, and boring, and you never learn allot anyway. So yeah just watch the 4 or 5 good cutscenes on youtube and be done with it.
This really is an exceptional game. My son liked one puzzle so much that he cried from liking it that much (I didn't even know this is possible, but obviously it is).
I am an old Neverhood expert, I also played through Skullmonkeys on PS. So I can conclude this game has nearly as much depth as Neverhood, something which Skullmonkeys always lacked.
Without giving up too many spoilers, we loved pretty much everything in the 1st 1/3rd of the game including the baby toys, the alien language, colon-like dog pathways and other stuff. Still have to finish the game but I could not wait to write this review.
Got the game on sale, this is SO MUCH VALUE for the price I paid!
Top recommended. No crashes. Just works really nicely on this Radeon setup.
